Biography
The following is a biography written by the web master of Juunanagou's Temple because I am simply too lazy to write my own biography for Juunanagou. I'm not, in ANY form, taking credit for writing this.  Anyway,  please enjoy Seventeen the Story.

One of the last cyborgs left in the world...

::Dragonball Z::

Jinzouningen Juunanagou (Android #17) first appeared in Dragonball Z episode #133, manga #29. He and his twin sister, Juuhachigou (#18), were originally intended as the culminating works of Dr. Gero, secondary professor of the Red Ribbon Army; said army having been, shall we say, forcibly disbanded by a young monkey-tailed boy by the name of Son Gokuu. Dr. Gero's new lifetime goal was Gokuu's destruction, and to that end he developed his creations. #17 and #18 are unique in that they are organically based...in essence, they are highly modified humans, whereas all of Gero's other creations were strictly mechanical.

Juunanagou (Juuhachigou alongside) makes his grand entrance with all necessary flair, promptly destroying Gero's remote control and, in due course, Gero himself (love that scene, by the way). On a whim the twins awaken Juurokugou (#16), and head off to fulfill the only goal given them: to kill Son Gokuu. Not for malice, certainly, they have nothing against the Saiyan, but...well, it could be fun, ne? As Juunanagou explains to a rather stunned Kuririn, it's all part of the game; a game which, from his point of view, he cannot lose. Even stronger than his Mirai counterpart (so said Future Trunks), Juunanagou believes himself to be the strongest fighter on the face of the planet. Ego? Naw...

Sadly, Juunanagou doesn't get to do overmuch in the course of Dragonball Z...after savoring effortless victories over the Z-senshi and engaging in a protracted battle with the fused Kami and Piccolo, Juunanagou has his first and only run-in with Cell. He nearly escapes absorption when first Piccolo, and then Juurokugou (#16) interfere on his behalf, but his ego, bolstered by Juurokugou's success, prevents him from escaping when he has the opportunity; in a scene bound to spark the ire of any Juunana otaku, Cell absorbs our hero and becomes (oddly enough, given Juunanagou's appearance) even uglier than before. Seeing that Juuhachigou isn't enticed by the offer of being part of him, Cell uses the image and voice of Juunana to try and trick her into allowing the absorption. However, after a moment's pause Juuhachi retorts that it couldn't be the real Juunana talking (in the original, this is because Cell referred to Dr. Gero as Gero-sama...something Juunanagou would never do. In the American dub, the ostensible reason is that Juunanagou was too proudly individualistic to give up his life for the sake of joining Cell).

Juunanagou and Juuhachigou are returned to their original states after Cell's defeat, and Kuririn, infatuated with Juuhachigou (even though he believes Juunana to be her boyfriend--well, they'd look cute together were they not related) , asks Shenlong to return them to being fully human. This was beyond the power of the Eternal Dragon (says a lot for the extremity of what Dr. Gero did to them, really); he was, however, able to remove certain unwelcome implantations from the cyborgs. Dr. Gero, in anticipation of attempted mutiny, had equipped each with a bomb to be detonated at his order...the remote control Juunanagou had destroyed upon awakening had been the activation device. From there on in, the jinzouningen focus is pretty much all on Juuhachigou.

The last we see of Juunana in Dragonball Z is in the last episodes, manga 42; we can see a little cabin, him holding a rifle and wearing a sheepskin jacket in the forest (he might have become a hunter? Or just a woodsman? Who can tell?). The end of Buu is drawing near (did anyone else notice that Juunanagou was also resurrected when all the "good people" of Earth were wished back? Seems Vegeta's not the only unlikely candidate for that title), and Juunana assists the completion of Gokuu's Genki Dama by giving his energy, saying, "So it's him... Hmph, I haven't heard this guy's voice for a long time." Now, has he ever met Gokuu? The answer is no, they never met. The only logical answer is that Gero had given #17 information about Gokuu, along with sound tracks of his voice.

::Dragonball GT::

Dragonball GT saw the introduction of a new (yet familiar) android, Hell Fighter Juunanagou. Identical in appearance to the original model, he was created in Hell through the efforts of the deceased Dr. Gero, and the so-called Machine Mutant Theory of (similarly deceased) Dr. Myuu. One might question the intelligence of such an act, but Gero's hypothesis stated that the original Juunanagou had, in fact, greater power than Cell himself, and was held back from his full potential by his grudge against Dr. Gero; Gero had erased all memories from the cyborg when he was created (which leaves fanfic authors plenty of room for speculation). Hell Fighter Juunanagou would not only be completely free of human emotions (unlike the original), but would also be under the control of the two not-so-good doctors; thus they assumed that a fusion of the two androids would likewise be theirs to control (heh...riiiiiiight).

Intrigued by the idea of gaining such power, Old Juunanagou is ostensibly put under Hell Fighter Juunanagou's spell (his eyes glow red). He goes to Juuhachigou and tries to persuade her to join him, arguing that humankind's extinction is imminent and together, they could rule the world. He attacks Kuririn (presumably under the influence of Hell Fighter) and Juuhachigou is forced to attack her brother in defense of her husband.

The fusion of the androids forms the extremely powerful (EXTREMELY ugly) Super #17, also called "The Ultimate Cyborg". This jinzouningen proves himself too much for the doctors to handle; he kills them both (given Juunanagou's old track record, I wonder why they didn't see it coming). Despite his power, Super #17 can't bring himself to attack Juuhachigou when she attacks him. It seems that Old Juunanagou still retained some influence and is working on behalf of his estranged sister. Juuhachigou uses that to her advantage; Super #17 is defeated by level 4 Gokuu (Super Gokuu) and Juuhachigou in DBGT eps. 47.

It leaves an interesting quandary: what happened after Super #17's defeat? Traditionally, dead villains are either washed of memories and resurrected for a second chance (i.e.--Buu), or else they are deemed beyond redemption and are sent to Hell for the rest of eternity (i.e.--Freeza, Cell, Dr. Gero). Now, the fusion: Old Juunanagou, having attained "good guy" status, would have been sent to Heaven. Hell Fighter Juunanagou, however, would have gone to Hell. Thus, if Super #17 remained fused, he may have ended up trapped in Hell (simply because the evil elements of him would prevent him achieving Heaven)...however, it is possible that Enma Daiou (the gatekeeper demon) could have separated the two and sent them each to their respective fate.

Of course, then you're left with Hell Fighter Juunanagou and no indication as to whether he is purely mechanical (like Juurokugou/#16) or human-based (like the original Juunana); without a soul, he'd never get a chance to see Enma Daiou and would end up wherever the other pure-machine jinzouningen did (may not even be Hell). It is unlikely that he was human-based, however. The difficulty of finding a human body in Hell at all must be considered, to say nothing of the fact that said body just happened to look exactly like that of the original. It could be hoped that Dr. Gero would possess enough rudimentary intelligence not to make the same mistake twice, as well; human-based jinzouningen had proven themselves notoriously unreliable. Granted, making another Juunanagou in the first place (wouldn't he have a different number?) was a matter of questionable judgement anyhow. Then again, mad scientists are allowed to be illogical every now and then, aren't they?

Juunana the Man--er, cyborg

Blessed (cursed?) with the body of a slim teenager, Juunanagou is distinguished by chin-length, dead-straight raven hair, slanted ice-blue eyes, and gold hoop earrings (takes a certain type of guy to wear earrings and still look good, ne?). His outfit consists of a navy/black t-shirt (with RR logo, but of course) worn over a long-sleeved white one, blue jeans torn out just above the left knee, belt, gun holster, bright green socks and blue-and-white sneakers. Actually, he has no less than three different styles of shoes: the pair from the original timeline, the pair seen in the last episodes (loose at the top like unlaced boots), and the pair seen in the Mirai timeline (gray-and-white soles, vs. the plain-white soles seen in the original timeline). Mirai no Juunanagou states at one point that the outfit he wears is his favorite, and only four like it still exist (um, Juu, it's called a sewing machine...).

Juunanagou's personality is in some ways eerily similar to that of Vegeta at the beginning of DBZ: insanely proud, cock-sure and egotistical...and absolutely dead-certain of what he knows to be true (ex: "You, the Ultimate Warrior? Don't make me laugh. The Ultimate Warrior is standing in front of you."). Juunana has no respect for most things...one gets the impression that he merely has found nothing worthy of his respect yet (Juuhachigou is the one notable exception to this). He takes very little seriously (which is one of the primary reasons he loses against Cell), and far from the lofty aspirations of the other Z-senshi, his primary goal is to have fun where it exists and find/make it where it doesn't.

His fighting style in the main timeline is mostly hand-to-hand, and very controlled (if you have not already, you have to see the fight between him and Piccolo...brute strength being nearly equal, it turns to skill and you get a real feel for how graceful Juunana truly is). He also seems given toward fighting alone; in the future timeline, he and Juuhachigou spend more time fighting together, often powering up back-to-back and then separating to attack from different angles. Of course, they got to spend a lot more time together in the Mirai world...they didn't get much chance for sibling bonding in the regular timeline, thanks to interference from Cell, and later, Juunana's decision head for the hills.

Now to more, ah, ethical matters. Just how artificial are they, now? We know they don't age, and their hair doesn't seem to grow. But, they do bleed. During #17's fight with Piccolo, we see blood - red blood - dribbling down Juunana's chin. Can't be Piccolo's blood, 'cos Namekseijins' blood is purple (what would Piccolo's blood be doing in #17's mouth anyway? ^^;;)

Personal habits? Juuhachigou put it well: "He's still got some human traits left in him." She often calls him playful, like a kid that won't grow up. Dull lifeless machine he is not, and he is determined to get the most out of whatever time he has (which may be infinite, difficult to say). He likes to show off his strength, smash/blast/obliterate things, and toy with people who don't understand what he is (that's, well, pretty much everybody). Mirai no Juunanagou shows a predisposition toward driving at insane speeds down treacherous roads, mowing people down and laughing like an idiot (WAHOOOOOOO...*splat*). In the Trunks Special we get to see him riding a swing and the teacup ride...such simple pleasures, ne? Sadistic, perhaps, but all in the interests of a good time. Who can argue with that?
