MONICA
Discography:
Monica was still in her church choir when her cousin (now her manager), Melinda Dancil, persuaded her, in the fifth grade, to enter a talent show organised by Yo-Yo and, local DJ, Ryan Cameron. This got her the recognition she needed and facilitated her introduction to Kevin Wales and who then introduced Monica to Dallas Austin. Monica's gold-certified debut album produced a string of top ten singles such as "Don't Take It Personal (just one of dem days)" and "Before You Walk Out of My Life.". Later on that year she appeared on LL Cool J's album 'Mr. Smith'.
More recently, she has taken a break from her singing career to star alongside Christian Kane (of Angel fame) in an MTV movie production called "Love Song". Yes, she does get to showcase her vocal talent but so too does Christian Kane. His vocals came to the attention of many, when in an episode of Angel at the karaoke bar he astounded Angel & co with his voice and accompanying guitar solo. Christian Kane has, in fact, been singing for quite a while and has fronted the little-known group Kane.
In the film, Monica plays an aspiring young med student who is engaged to a rather nice young man, moreso to please her father than herself. She meets Christian Kane's character in a dingy club and begins singing with them. They then fall in love and sing some rather nice songs together, the duet version of the main song What My Heart Says is absolutely amazing by the way, and then there are a few bumps along the way but all ends happily (in true MTV style).
What the industry heads have to say about her...
"Monica has unbelievable depth and soul, possessing a truly staggering vocal arsenal." Clive Davis.
"What a treat to team up with someone so professional, so musical and who always wants to make the most of her special gift. A beautiful voice, a wonderful talent, a gorgeous girl with superstardom just around the corner. I wish my job was always this easy!" David Foster
"She is the most innately talented singer I've ever worked with." Dallas Austin
"She's the most gifted young star that I've seen in a long, long time." Daryl Simmons
