Handpainted
blank antique 1924 plates ~signed~ |
Set of
two small blank porcelain plates, hand/home painted. One
is signed by Jessie Launtz 1924, the other one just
Launtz. These plates are exquisite decorated with daisy
flowers, gold trimmed, one is decorated with dog wood flowers.
They measure about 6" in diameter. I got this information from
people who know about blank hand painted porcelain:
- " At one time, china
painting was a very popular pastime for women of breeding.
The time of greatest popularity was probably 1890 - 1920's -
though it still continues today. Ladies would buy porcelain
blanks and decorate them with varying degrees of skill and
artistic ability. "
- "...there were groups
of women in that era such as the "Saturday Evening Girls"
who would get together and paint china...began in the early
1900's through WWI...most signed but not always
dated.."

Antique Limoges set of cup
and saucer (1895-1917)
|
This is a lovely Limoges
set of one porcelain cup and a saucer demitasse), color is
light ivory with gold trim. The trimming on the tim's
cup is a bit fading, the saucer is perfect.
The cup measures about 1 1/2" tall and about 2 1/2" in
diameter, the saucer measures about 5" in diameter. I
got this information from great people:
- "The green stamp is
the underglaze mark made by the manufacturer & decorator
of this piece (PM DE M"--P.M). The maker was the
Limoges porcelain firm of Mavaleix/Granger and the date that
stamp was used on their products was from 1908-1914 as shown
in Gaston's book on Limoges porcelain on page 368.
- "Rontgen's and
Henderson's books have a similar LS&S Carlsbad- Austria
instead of LS&S Limoges - France identified for the New
York firm L Straus & Sons 1895 to 1917.
- "The red
overglaze stamp is that of the New York exporting firm of
Lewis Strauss & Sons (LS&S). It is believed that
when the red stamp was used, the manufacturer made the
decoration exclusively for Lewis Strauss (1908-1914)."
-
- "The "Donut" overglaze
exporting mark (LS&S)--Lewis Straus and Sons, was used
in 1890-to mid 1920's and came in blue, red, green or
gray."
I can't tell you exactly
the age of this piece, neither the pattern name.
Replacements has a set of plates with same patter, they
identify it with the number
LSS56. | |
