Materials: DK yarn, 1 ball (50 grams) makes 2 hats, US 4 and US 5 dpns, or size needles to achieve gauge.
Gauge: 5.5 sts = 1 inch with larger needles
Sizes: Small Newborn: 10" wide x 6.5" high, fits 5 - 7 lb, Newborn: 11" wide x 7" high, fits newborn.
General Directions:
Cast on between 64 and 72 stitches, depending on the multiple of stitches in the pattern and the size of hat desired.
Rib in either 1x1 or 2x2 ribbing 2 ½", 3".
Change to larger needles, knit in pattern 2 ½", 3".
Top Shaping:
1st rnd * k2, k2 tog. Repeat from * around.
2nd rnd and all even numbered rnds K around.
3rd rnd * k1, k2 tog. Repeat from * across.
5th rnd Repeat first rnd.
7th rnd Repeat 3rd rnd.
9th rnd k2 tog around, until 8 or 9 sts are left.
Break off, leaving 18" end. Draw end through sts, finish ends.
Pink Hat
Openwork Rib Stitch: m6, cast on k1p1 rib, 66 or 72 sts
Rounds 1 - 3: *k3,p3*
Round 4: *yo, k3tog, yo, p3*
Top Shaping: (shift sts so each dpn begins with 3 P sts)
Rnd 1: *p2, k2tog, k2*
Rnd 2: *p2, k3*
Rnd 3: *p1, k2tog, k2*
Rnd 4: *p1, k3*
Rnd 5: *k2tog, k2*
Rnd 6: *k2tog, k1*
Rnd 7: *k2tog* until 6 sts are left.
