Gauge: 9 sts = 2”, 7 rs = 1”
Sizes: Extra Small Preemie

Cast on 15 sts.
Rows 1: Knit across.
Row 2: K2, *yo, k2tog, repeat from * across, end k. 15 sts.
Rows 3 & 4: Knit across.

Rows 5 - 19: beginning with a knit row, continue in stockinette, about 3" from the beginning.

Cast on 14 sts at the beginning of the next two rows. 43 sts. *See my note.

Begin knitting with the same pattern used on the gown, or stockinette, keeping 3 sts each side in knit.

Row 1: K3 *knit in pattern* K3.

Row 2: K2 tog, yo, k1, *P* K1, yo, k2 tog (eyelets made for ribbon)
Row 3: K3 *knit in pattern* K3
Row 4: K3 *p* K3

Rows 5 - 14: Repeat rows 1 - 4 until the bonnet measures about 2 1/2" from cast on stitches.

Knit 6 rows in garter stitch, bind off.
Sew side seams, thread ribbon or crocheted chain through eyelets.

Notes:I don't care to sew the seams, so I pick up and knit the same number of sts from the sides of the bonnet, like knitting a sock. I use either dpns or my circular needle to pick them up. It's tight at first, but it gets easier after a few rows
