Extra Small Preemie Gown Top-Down Raglan Sleeves by Lenore English

Materials: Baby Sport Yarn, size 9 needles or size needed for gauge, 2 stitch holders, 4 markers
Gauge: 9 sts = 2”, 7 rs = 1”
Sizes: Extra Small Preemie
Chest: 10", neck to hem 10"
This Preemie Gown is knitted from the top down, and is open in the back.
Keep the first and last 3 sts in seed st (k1, p1, k1) so the edges do not curl.

Cast on 28 sts.
Rows 1 & 2: Knit across.
Row 3: K2, *yo, k2tog, repeat from * across, end yo, k2tog, k2.
Rows 4 & 5: Knit across.

Row 6: k1, p1, k1, p 2, place marker, purl 4 (sleeve), place marker, purl 10 (front), place marker; purl 4 (sleeve), place marker, purl 2, k1, p1, k1. (28 sts).

Begin raglan increases:

Rows 1, 3, 5, 7: k1, p1, k1, knit the row, increasing in the stitch before and after each marker, knit to last 3 sts, k1, p1, k1.

Rows 2, 4, 6, 8: k1, p1, k1, purl to last 3 sts, k1, p1, k1.

Row 8 will have 60 sts.

Move the sleeve stitches to stitch holders.
Row 9: k1, p1, k1, k6, move the next 12 sts to a stitch holder (sleeve) cast on 7 sts, k18, move next 12 sts to a stitch holder (sleeve) cast on 7 sts, k6, k1, p1, k1. (50 sts)
Skirt:Rows 1 - 3: K1, p1 rib.
Row 4: (right side) K1, p1, k1, knit across, increasing 3 sts evenly across the row, end k1, p1, k1. (53 sts).
Row 5: K1, p1, k1, purl to the last 3 sts, k1, p1, k1.

Knit in Dot Stitch Pattern as follows, or use a pattern of your choice.

Row 1: (Right Side) k1, p1, k2 * p1, k3, repeat from *, end p1, k2, p1, k1.
Rows 2 & 4: k1, p1, k1, purl to last 3 sts, k1, p1, k1.
Row 3: k1, p1, k1, * k3, p1, repeat from *, end k4, p1, k1.

Repeat rows 1 – 4 until 9” from neckline. Work 1” border of seed stitch, or garter stitch. Bind off loosely.
Sleeves: Put 12 sts from holder onto needles.
Cast on 6 sts at the beginning of next 2 row. (24 sts)
Knit desired length in pattern stitch or stockinette stitch.
I knit 12 rows of the pattern.
Next row: k2, k2tog across the row. (16 sts)
Knit 4 rows garter stitch, moss stitch or border of your choice. Bind off loosely. Sew sleeve seams if desired. Repeat for second sleeve.


Notes:Add contrast colors and decorate as you desire. If you want to use a different stitch pattern, you can increase a different number of stitches at the waist line.
