Precious Gift

I'm thinking of my precious girl
whose smile has always been
a gift from God upon her face
since the day she was born.
Her smile perpetual as it was
could not be removed or erased,
for the warmth and love was
always in her face.
I'm trying to understand why the
Lord works the way he does,
to take our children in so short a time
when years of life were not enough
to give me only a taste of what I almost had.
A precious gift from above.
I wish God could tell us why
he takes away too soon.
That special gift we just started to
enjoy in all the things they do.
Well my precious one only you know
the answers to the questions I ask.
Please give me the strength I need
to continue on my task.
You've been gone a while now but
it seems you were just here.
Walking and talking to the music of my ears.
If God granted me one wish
my wish would be
to see that beautiful smile once again
that was put upon your face for me.
