HUGGED BY AN ANGEL

At first, you were each sunrise
Each bright new day at dawn,
The hope of new beginnings
Reminding me you're gone.

Then any star at sunset
Or clouds across the moon,
Had me speaking to you
As though I'd see you soon.

Somehow you felt my heartache
And heart the silent scream.
For knowing what I needed,
You visited my dream.

There seemed to be a party,
With you an active part.
Just seeing you so happy
Nearly burst my heart.

With joyous throngs around you,
My grief kept me away.
I didn't want to hurt you,
Or send my pain your way.

Then there you were beside me
Resting your hands in mind,
Wrapping your love around me
Till I began to shine.

Soon, off you went a dancing
With just one backward glance,
Smiling over your shoulder
At me left in your trance.

Your love stayed after sunrise.
Even now, it still sings.
My heart swears that it has been
Hugged by an angel's wings!
