Student work at Data Here's a guy who loves gemstones TOPAZ Billy Lovell 7A There are many different types of topaz. They come in different colors like the rare light blue, yellow, green, pink, dark blue and my favorites, orange and light orange. Topaz got its name from the island Zebirget in the Red Sea area. The island used to to be called Topazos. The most valuable topaz is the natural rose colored topaz. In 1965 a blue topaz was found in the Ukraine. Now that is a big gem! The most famous topaz is actually a colorless topaz that was originally thought to be a diamond. It is a 1680-carat stone known as the Bragaza diamond. I happen to own a rough topaz gem in orange. It looks like 1000 diamonds trapped in honey. I saved up all my money to buy it. I paid $50.00 for a small piece, about the size of ¼ of your pinky finger. I am proud of it because I bought it with my own money, maybe one day it will be worth a lot more! Back to INTRO Hi Mr. Mac I will try to copy the book report Donovan wrote and send in this email. And will try to attach it also so you might get it twice. or not at all. i am not so good at this. let him know if you don't get it. Donovan Bertch 9-28-04 Reading Summerland This is my report on the first half of Summerland. Since it is a very long book (It’s 500 pages) I’ve decided to do a report on the first 10 chapters. Ethan Field was a normal kid until he woke up one morning and a werefox is sitting on his bed. When Cutbelly (he’s the werefox) tells him that the creatures that the creatures that provide the sunny days where Ethan lives, the Ferishers, are in danger of being destroyed. The Changer A.K.A. Coyote is trying to destroy the tree that holds the “Worlds” together. The “Worlds” are the Summerlands, the Middling and the Winterlands. The fourth world was destroyed by Coyote. The Ferishers recruit Ethan to stop Coyote. With a little help from his friends he might be able to stop Coyote’s plan. The main characters are Ethan Field, Mr. Field Jennifer T. Rideout, Thor Wignutt, Cutbelly, a Ferisher named Chief, and Coyote. Ethan is a pretty normal kid. Unless you count that he is the worst player on his baseball team and was asked to stop Coyote by the Ferishers. Other than that he’s pretty normal. Jennifer is one of Ethan’s friends and a very important person in this story. One of her crazy aunts told her that she had a dream about what Coyote was doing to the Murmury Well the well that powers the tree that holds the “Worlds” up. Thor is another friend of Ethan and is very intelligent. He is under the impression that he is actually a synthetic humanoid ( in other words a cyborg) called Two-3. But he’s just very smart. Mr. Field is a technical genius and Ethan’s father. When a man named Rob Padfoot comes and takes him to the Winterlands he knows something isn’t right. Cutbelly is a werefox and a very important part of this story. He is the one who tells him about the “Worlds” (see first page). He is also a help to Ethan during his adventure as a navigator. Chief is one of the Ferishers that recruit Ethan to help them out. He is also the one who teaches Ethan how to drive Skid, a flying car. Coyote is the villain in this story. Once he destroyed one of the worlds which made only three worlds left. Now he’s trying to destroy the tree that holds the three “Worlds” together. So far Ethan has tried to grasp what was happening since Cutbelly appeared and when one of Jennifer’s aunts tells about a dream she had having to do with what was going on Ethan finally understands what to do. And he understands even more once his father goes missing. While he’s on his way to the Winterlands he and the others run into Mooseknuckle John a giant with a nasty attitude. To get back on the trail Ethan has to beat Mooseknuckle John in a challenge. When Ethan wins John has to give him a push to get him going. In the Winterlands Mr. Field has to go with Padfoot across part of the Winterlands where he will meet Coyote. Ethan and his friends have learned that there will be many dangers on the way to the Winterlands. Ethan learns that he can do anything if he tries. At the beginning of the book Ethan thought he was a loser. I think that in the book Coyote is a symbol of evil, hatred, and man’s greed. The details that appear over and over are the ideas of what Coyote will do to destroy the tree of the “Worlds”. It’s Coyote this and Coyote that! This is my book report on the first ten chapters of Summerland. |
