Parents want to know: How can my students prepare for the FCAT? 1. The students should write at least three essays each week, one on Saturday, one on Sunday and one during the week. the teachers will ask the students to re-write some of the topics. 2. Students should read for 30 minutes at home every evening. EVEN Saturday and SUNDAY. 3. Students need to listen to National Public Radio and write down words or expressions that they don't know. 4. Students can ask for FCAT workbooks to take home. The books are issued by the school and the books need to be returned to school so we can work on the workbooks in class. 5. There are workbooks that parents can buy. Good idea! There are web sites to visit with free examples. It's okay to use websites from other schools. States like Massachusetts have good questions. 6. Parents with computers can ask for a CD from Mr. Mac... plenty of downloaded pages for the students to complete. 7. Insist that your kids learn to use 10 fingers when typing. It goes much faster eventually. Don't look at the keyboard! |

| Weeks 10 to 18 Classwork for DATA students Here's a Project for EXTRA CREDIT BRAVO Students who deserve a "hurrah!" GRADING CRITERIA 9 weeks 5 points each week 45 points for class. 10 points for HOME Reading Journal 10 points for the BOOK REPORTS (One for October, one for November) 35 points for Odyssey/Tests ===================== 100 points total The Home Reading Journal is easy to maintain: 30 minutes of reading each night, two sentences of summary notes. That's EVERY NIGHT. I expect to see 30 notes from Nov. 1 to 30 when I look at the Home Journal in class during the first week of December. Call with questions at 954 646 8246.
