Interesting Stuff starts here... just keep scrolling down... Let's start with Mr. Prabhu's interesting day... FRIDAY Evening - Anil Assomull had a smallish party for his cousin Raju who recently turned FIFTY. Seafood was plenty & I ate maybe a bit more than I needed. Jumoos were exceptional. I better find out who made them. Better yet I should find out if there are any leftovers. I eventually left around 2, without Raju even though he also stays at Eko Court where I am currently. SATURDAY Morning - Mostly e-mail & computer. Afternoon - Waited for satellite guy, without success. Two weeks without satellite is okay, just hate waiting in vain. Part of life in Nigeria. Evening - Charity function by Vama / Tolaram Group at Lagoon. I even wore a jacket. Theme was Mrs International. Food was good and, for once,I won a raffle prize ... a rug. Have not yet opened it so no idea how big/small it is, let alone its value. The real dilemma is where do I keep it ??? SUNDAY Temple and laanghar (hope the spelling is close) in the morning, then half-watched Leeds & Newcastle both lose during the afternoon. At least Vijay Singh won again. MONDAY & WORK Pretty much same ... frustrating as ever. Traffic is such a big factor, both coming & going. So I leave as early as possible, hopefully by 9, providing car & driver oblige by being available simultaneously. If I leave as per schedule the journey should not exceed an hour, whether coming or going. Otherwise it can be anything. My worst so far has been 2hr40min., from factory back. The "beauty" of leaving later is the exponential factor of traffic delays. Today I have been waiting downstairs for almost 30min. already. Speak of the devil, here comes the car now. So it will probably take 90min. to reach the factory, so 11am instead of 10am. It just starts the day off on a low, plus it is very frustrating. It is now 10am and I am passing the container port at Tin Can, roughly half-way, DISTANCE WISE !!! Just pray. Have reached factory now (1030) so I will resume this e-mail in the evening on the drive back. 7pm - Homeward bound, finally. Had planned to leave by 4 so as to avoid the traffic. I'll be lucky if I get back by 9. Work itself was extremely frustrating, mostly due to the cavalier attitude of some of the marketing staff. One in particular is pushing his luck - instead of doing his work he wants casual leave to attend a friend's wedding in Ghana. Wonder how much he is skimming because he should not be able to even afford thinking about travelling to Ghana, let alone actually going. FIRE !!! My sales manager's air-con exploding and catching fire at around 6 did not exactly help. Nobody was hurt but it did get very smoky. Some staff ran in wild panic, others (over-)reacted with umpteen fire extinguishers which I had to stop them from using all up at once, esp. for such a small fire. It was unique in that the air-con lterally exploded and was on fire for some minutes. It is already 9 and I am nowhere near home. I have lost count of the number of cars that have pulled to the side due to overheating. Traffic is at a virtual standstill. I guess I'll only know the cause of this go-slow (more like go-stop) when I pass it. Looks like 10-ish unless it clears up soon. I'll fill you in when I reach. Time to pray again. 9.45 - Still stuck in traffic and now we have just been hit by another car. The whole rear passenger door has been smashed in. Nothing much can be done now so I have just seized the other driver's papers and documents - including original licence, vehicle particulars and his student i.d. card !!! They say things come in threes, so hopefully I am done for the month, or at least the week - fire, traffic jam & now car crash. So now the clown can come to the factory tomorrow to reclaim his papers, after undertaking to pay for the repairs to the car. Such a waste of time !!! ARRIVAL TIME - . At least it is still the same day, albeit not by much. 42km travelled in 3.5 hrs - average speed of just 12 kph. Should have taken a turtle. Okay, I'm done. Starving so I will grab dinner & then just try to unwind. Too wound up though so I have no idea what time I'll be able to get myself to bed. PRABHU P.s. Please remind me to leave the factory earlier in future. ==================================== More interesting stuff will follow here... look for it... RETURN TO index |
