Twisted Hazzard

*In this story I borrowed the characters Mulder and Scully from the X-files for fun. I am just giving them another case to work on (thought they'd have fun in Hazzard County :) ). Like I said I only write for fun. Also in this I make refernce to other Hoggs, Sheriff Little and Coy and Vance (yuck as the last two may be they are mentioned only  in passing and not used as characters. So if you hate then as much as I don't worry about having to read about them.).

The small picturesque town of Hazzard lay resting roughly amongst the hills of Northern Georgia. The warm summer night lay heavy on the town along with a silence, no crickets could be heard chirping. Everything in town was in darkness,  but up on Eagle Point a tall, black, metal tower, stood overlooking the valley, illuminated by a pale red light. The base of the tower was rounded and looked like a giant tire, on top of which a tall, black, twisted tower stood, forming to a peak at the top. It was constructed of many shades of black metal entwining together, towards the sky. Most all the townspeople were inside the temple's main room, and faint chanting could be heard echoing throughout the temple. In the centre of the room was a stone statue of a car, a 1969 Dodge Charger. The room was lit by the moonlight coming through a small window in the ceiling, as well as the light of many burning candles, and a large flame that was next to the statue, by a small pillar. On the statue was a woman in her early forties, her eyes full of fear as she tried to struggle, but her efforts were futile as she was being pinned down by an unseen force of evil. By the statue stood two young men dressed in all black, a half gold amulet hung around each one's neck, in their hands they held long jagged swords. The blonde one, Bo Duke, looked a couple years younger than the brunette, Luke Duke, his cousin. However, both looked young, as though they were in no more then in their mid to late twenties. Their tight black clothes enhanced their muscular bodies.  Just a few feet behind them stood their cousin Daisy Duke, who appeared to be around the same age as them, she, too, was dressed in all black. In her hands she held open a large old book, the Autonomidon, a book that was bound in human flesh and written in blood. The chanting started to grow louder, the boys raised their swords high and they glistened in the light. The chanting stopped, then they plunged their swords deep into her body. Blood seeped from around the wound spilling onto the statue, as a sacrifice to the car god. Outside, a bright flash of lightening and a loud roll of thunder filled the sky. The woman's soul left her body and her life force energy flowed up through the swords into the boys, retaining their youth and giving them powers. The woman's body became engulfed in a red flame and within seconds nothing remained. They turned around slowly and placed their swords on Daisy's shoulders, life energy flowed through them and into her, also retaining her youth.
On highway 67 a patrol car sped away from Hazzard towards Atlanta. Behind the wheel was deputy Enos Strate, his eyes full of fear and determination.
At the FBI headquarters in Atlanta agents Mulder and Scully were just leaving from a conference when a county patrol car came whipping into the drive, screeching to a halt just in front of the steps. The driver clambered out of the car and raced into the building.
"The town....it's become, it is....it's evil" Enos stammered loudly.
Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing, and stared at Enos. Mulder and Scully walked over to him.
"Calm down. Just where are you talking about?" Mulder asked.
"Hazzard County." Enos said, his voice quiet and full of fear.
"I think that we had better talk about this elsewhere." Mulder said, looking around the room at everyone watching them.
They went to a small conference room. Scully handed him a cup of coffee, and he slowly sipped it, his hands shaking fearfully, nearly spilling the coffee.
"We are special agents Mulder and Scully, we are with the Xfile division" Mulder said  "Who are you?"
"I'm Enos Strate, I'm from Hazzard County."
"Just where is this town of Hazzard?" Mulder asked.
"About an hour out on highway 67." Enos replied.
"What is evil about it?" Mulder questioned.
"Well.....it all started back in '86..." Enos said, then took a sip of the coffee, "That's when the evil got released. Before that Hazzard was a normal town."
"What do you mean by 'the evil got released'?" Mulder asked.
"Well I don't really know everything that happened and some of it I just can't remember." Enos said. His voice had finally calmed some, "It was from some book the Duke boys found."
"Who are the Duke boys?" Mulder asked.
"Bo and Luke Duke." Enos said, "I don't know if they meant to release the evil or not, they were good boys, they never did anything wrong before. But it was so hard on them when Uncle Jesse died, but still..."Enos said then trailed off.
"Who was this 'Uncle Jesse'?" Mulder asked.
"Their uncle, he raised them since they were babies after their parents died, he raised them to always do the right thing. Its so hard to accept them as being evil." Enos said, his voice shaking as he finished the sentence.
     "How are they evil?"Mulder asked.
"They run the evil cult that has taken over most of Hazzard."
"What do you mean 'most the town'?" Scully asked.
"Well, some of the people still have good in them, but they know if they try to do anything they will be........killed or sacrificed to the car god like all the people who have ever crossed them before, and the strangers that come into town." Enos said, his eyes full of fear, "That book gave them all kinds of powers."
"What kinds of powers?" Mulder asked.
"I don't really know all the powers. I know they each wear half a golden amulet around their neck, and when they connect, it summons a ghost car. They can control peoples' minds, and make things move just by looking at them." Enos said, his voice shaking.
"Why did you decide to speak out now?" Scully asked.
"I don't know, it's like I was brainwashed not to speak out or something. Just recently I started to see just how evil Hazzard has become." Enos said.
"Well, we'll see what we can find out about it. You can stay here in Atlanta..." Mulder said.
"No. I've gotta go back before they find out that I left." Enos said getting up and leaving.
"Do you actually think that there is something to his story?" Scully asked.
"Well he seemed so serious. I think maybe we should check this town out." Mulder said.
They ran Bo and Luke's names through the computer, but came up with nothing on them. They decided to go to the library and look for old newspaper articles on them or the town. They sat looking at old articles, on scanners, but couldn't find very many.
"This is odd, there's nothing on this town after 1986, and half the articles are missing. All the ones with pictures of Bo and Luke Duke" Scully said.
"Yeah, I think we really should go check this Hazzard out" Mulder said.
Enos arrived back in Hazzard and was approached by Bo and Luke Duke.
"Hey Enos, buddy, we need to talk to you." Bo said.
"Okay." Enos said nervously and walked over to meet them.
Bo put his arm around Enos's shoulder, "Now why'd you go run to the FBI like that?" he asked.
"Yeah why'd you go tell them lies about this town, and us, your friends?" Luke added.
"They ain't lies, it's the truth." Enos said, his voice trembling with fear.
"Now that ain't a very nice thing to say." Bo said.
"It ain't nice to go and tell lies about your friends. Hazzard is the same place that it has always been. Nothing and nobody has changed." Luke said.
"That ain't true." Enos said, his voice still trembling and his eyes filling with fear.
"Now Enos, what are you afraid of? You don't really think that we would hurt you? Do you?" Bo asked with a smile.
"Yeah, unlike you we don't go around trying to hurt our friends." Luke said, then stepped in front of Enos. Luke's eyes began to change to deep black, and a cold wind blew through the trees. "Listen very carefully. You went and told them feds lies. You can't live with that, so you are going to go home and kill yourself." Luke said, his voice cold and emotionless, "Do you understand?" he asked.
"Yes, I will go home and take my life." Enos replied, his voice distant sounding.
"You will talk to nobody." Luke said.
"I understand." Enos said, his voice still distant sounding, then Luke's eyes returned to their normal pale blue colour. Bo removed his arm from around Enos's shoulders, and Enos went and got in his patrol car and drove off.
"What a tragedy." Bo said with a small smile as he watched Enos's car drive away.
"Yeah, it's too bad he had to go tell about the town. What a shame he has to die." Luke said.
"Yeah. Oh well, I'm starved, let's go get something to eat." Bo said.
Mulder and Scully arrived in Hazzard at 4:00 that afternoon. They drove into the centre of town, and saw people coming and going from stores. Everything appeared as though Hazzard was just an ordinary small southern town. Then the car engine began to sputter and Mulder noticed the Hazzard County garage on the left hand side of the street. He pulled the car in by the gas tanks. Inside the garage they noticed a black car with its hood up and someone sitting by the bay doors, reading a tattered old car magazine. Bo heard the car pull in, looked up and smiled. He tossed the magazine into the garage onto a table and stood up. He ran his fingers through his thick blonde hair, and approached the car as it stopped, the engine dying out. Mulder and Scully got out of the car.
"Welcome to Hazzard County." Bo said smiling, "Got car problems?"he asked.
"Yeah, the engine kicked out." Mulder said, looking at Bo suspicously.
Luke came from around the car in the garage. He wiped his greasy hands off on an old rag as he approached them, and tossed the rag on the table as he walked past.
"Well open 'er up and we'll see if we can't find the problem for ya." Bo said.
Mulder reached into the car and popped the hood, then Bo began to look over the engine.
"So what's a couple of city slickers like you doing here in Hazzard anyway?" Luke asked.
"We're looking for Enos Strate, do you know where we could find him?" Mulder asked.
"No. Actually, I ain't seen him in days." Luke said.
"Yeah, he's proberly passed out drunk somewheres." Bo added, not looking up from under the hood.
"So is he a heavy drinker then?" Scully questioned.
"Lady, that's an understatement. Old Enos drinks like a fish." Luke said, "Last time I saw him he was goin' on about something about flying cars."
"And before that was talking pigs and singing goats." Bo added.
"He's always got some crazed idea about something in his head." Luke finished.
"Really. Is that so?" Mulder asked.
"Sure is, and I think I've found your problem. You got a crack in your distributor cap." Bo said, looking up from under the hood, "We don't got none in stock, so we's gonna have to order you one, it oughta be in by tomorrow."
"We got an old grey sedan if you need a loaner, no charge, and we should have your car fixed for you in no time." Luke said.
Mulder and Scully glanced over at the sedan.
"That's an old model. What year is it a '78, '79?" Mulder asked.
     "'77." Bo replied.
"Yeah, it's old but still runs great. Most old cars were built better than the newer ones." Luke said.
They went into the office and Luke handed Mulder the keys to the sedan. Mulder and Scully drove away from the garage.
"Maybe that guy really is just a drunk with a crazy idea. The town looks normal, and they seemed like typical small town country boys." Scully said.
"Everything isn't always as it appears. The town looks like time hasn't touched it in
 years." Mulder said.
"Yeah, but lots of small towns get lost in today's rush and become independent little communities like this place." Scully said.
"Yeah, but I just got a feeling that there's something more to this town." Mulder said.
Mulder and Scully spent a couple of hours looking around the town for clues, but found nothing out of the ordinary. They arrived back at the hotel at about 9:00 that night.
"Well nothing seemed out of the ordinary in this town. I think that guy was just
crazy." Scully said.
"Maybe. But I still got the feeling there is something we missed. The town just seemed a little too ordinary." Mulder said.
Then they went to their rooms for the night. Mulder awoke the next morning, the bright morning sun shone through the curtains. He got up and went and knocked on Scully's door. There was no response, so he knocked again. He waited for a response, but again there was none. He could hear no movement in the room, and became worried. He tried the door and found that it was unlocked. Mulder opened the door slowly and looked around the room, there was no sign of Scully. The bed was made, and the curtains were open. He went down to the front desk. The manager sat at the desk, looking through a stack of papers, he looked up as Mulder reached the desk.
     "Enjoy your stay?" he asked.
"Yeah. Has my partner been down yet this morning?" Mulder asked.
"Your partner?"he asked questioningly, "Oh that lady. Nope ain't seen her since last night. But she could have gone out when I was making coffee. Want some?" He said motioning to the freshly brewed pot of coffee on the table by the desk.
"No, that's okay." Mulder said, then went outside.
The loan car was still parked on the far side of the street, right where he had parked it last night. He went over and got into the car, he tried to start the car, but it wouldn't start. He waited a couple seconds and then tried it again. This time the engine turned over. He drove over to the Hazzard garage. He couldn't see his car anywhere on the lot, and then he noticed the sign on the garage doors: CLOSED.
Mulder went to the county building and snuck into the county records office. He figured that if he was going to find Scully that he would have to get to the bottom of whatever was going on in the town. In the records he found where Enos lived and jotted the address down on a piece of paper. He searched through the files for anything on Bo and Luke Duke, but found nothing on them, or on any Dukes.
Mulder went to the Hazzard County boarding house, which was the address he had for Enos. He knocked on the door, but there was no response. He tried the door, but it was locked. Using a credit card he managed to pick the lock, he opened the door, but a chain lock prevented it from opening more then a crack. He slammed the door hard, breaking the old chain lock that held the door shut. He walked into the room, everything was dark - no lights were on, and the curtains were tightly drawn. Mulder felt along the wall for a light switch. Finally his hand fell upon the switch, he flicked the lights on and stepped further into the room. He then noticed Enos  lying dead on the floor, his wrists slit open, a shard of glass held tight in his left hand, and a smashed bottle lay a couple of feet away. He noticed a half full glass on the small table by Enos's dead body. He picked the glass up and smelled it, it smelled strongly of alcohol. He figured it was moonshine. Mulder went over to the windows, he saw they were closed and locked. He heard something behind him. He placed his hand on his gun and turned quickly around. Just inside the room stood Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane.
"Alright, what are you doin' in here?" he asked.
"I'm special agent Fox Mulder with the FBI, I'm on an investigation." Mulder said, dropping his hand from his gun.
"Well I don't care if you ARE with the FB and I, you're trespassing illegally." Rosco said, stepping further into the room.
"I don't think the tenant will be pressing charges." Mulder said, motioning to where Enos lay on the floor.
"Oh yeah, well, I'll call the coroner to come take care of that. What a shame." Rosco said, his voice emotionless sounding,     "What are you doin' in here anyway?" he asked.
"He is part of an investigation on this town." Mulder responded.
"Investigation on this town?" Rosco said, his voice surprised sounding, "Oh tiddly, now why would you be investigating Hazzard, there ain't nothing to be investigated. Now get outta here, and don't let me catch ya trespassing again or I'll cuff ya and stuff ya" Rosco said.
"Yeah okay." Mulder said, and then left the boarding house.
Bo and Luke stood atop the building across from the boarding house watching Mulder as he came out of the boarding house.
"Are you sure that grabbing that fed last night was such a good idea?" Bo asked, looking over at his cousin.
"Yeah, I'm sure." Luke said, not taking his eyes off Mulder.
"Well, I think that now her partner may cause us some problems while he looks for her. He was determined before to find something and now he's even more determined." Bo said.
"Yeah well he won't find nothing. We're just gonna have a little fun with him, we're holding all the cards." Luke said.
"Yeah, well, I just got the feeling we should've waited, or snagged both them at the same time." Bo said, still looking at his cousin.
"Yeah, well, the game is being played by our rules. We can't lose." Luke said "Trust me." he added, looking over at Bo.
"Yeah, okay." Bo said as Mulder pulled away from the boarding house.
"We'd better go check on our guest." Luke said.
They jumped down off the building, landing lightly on the ground as though the jump was from no significant height.
Mulder decided that maybe the answers were not in the town, but somewhere in the county, so he decided to go out the back roads to see what he could find. However, he still couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. He stopped to talk to a couple of people but they ignored him, refusing to talk. He stopped at a couple of farmhouses, but there were no responses. He peeked in the windows, but saw no movement from within. He checked the barns, but there was nothing in them except for old rusty tractors and few farm animals. He was walking away from a barn on Mill Road when he heard a rustling noise coming from behind him in the bushes by the barn. He drew his gun and turned around, aiming the gun at the bushes. An orange cat emerged from the bush. In its mouth it held a dead mouse. The cat glanced up at him nervously as though he would take away its dinner. Mulder shook his head and reholstered his gun, and then went and got into the car and drove off down the road.
Meanwhile, back at the temple, Bo and Luke walked into one of the smaller back rooms. Bo walked up behind Daisy and put an arm around her shoulders.
      "Hey girl." he said cheerfully.
"Hey yourself!" she said, and put an arm around Bo's waist giving him a small hug.
Luke was standing over by where Scully sat on a bench, her face was expressionless and her gaze looked distant, her eyes not even blinking. Bo walked up beside him, put an arm on his shoulders and leaned on him.
"Is she still under the spell?" he asked.
     "Yeah, she is." Luke responded.
"What are you two gonna do about that other fed?" Daisy asked as she joined them.
"Well, for now we'll just send the General out after him, to run him off the road." Luke said and then took hold of his amulet and held it out.
Bo held out his and connected the two halves. The sound of a powerful engine filled the temple, causing the walls to slightly vibrate, as it echoed off the walls. A bright flash of light shone throughout the dark corridors of the temple. Outside the temple stairs the General Lee appeared, the engine idling. The bright orange paint glistened in the midday sun, the confederate flag on the roof and big 01 on the door stood out brightly.
"Find that fed and run him off the road. Just smash the car up a bit and run him into a ditch. Do not kill him." Luke said, his voice deep and demanding.
The General's horn sounded, and the sound of Dixie rose above the sound of the idling engine. The tires squealed and dirt and stones flew into the air, as the General dropped gears and sped off down the road in a cloud of dust to find the car Mulder was driving.
Mulder was on Cottontail road when he heard a car coming up behind him. He looked into his rear view mirror and saw a bright orange car approaching fast. Then he noticed that nobody was driving the car. The General sped up and rammed into the back of the car, jolting Mulder. He tried to speed up to get away, but the sedan engine was no match for the powerful engine of the General. The General dropped momentarily back and then sped up and rammed the car again. Then it pulled up alongside Mulder's car and began to slam into the side of it. Mulder didn't notice the sharp curve that was coming up, as he struggled to keep the car on the road.  The General slammed into the car and ran it off the road, into the ditch as they hit the curve. The car's engine died out as it struck the far side of the ditch. Mulder tried to get it to start again, but the engine wouldn't restart. He looked out the back window and saw the General sitting in the road idling. The front fender  was crunched, and the side was dented and streaked with grey paint from the sedan. The General's engine revved and then was entirely consumed with a golden glow. As the damage repaired itself, the glow vanished.  The engine revved again, and there was a bright flash of light and then the General vanished. Mulder got out of the car, and walked onto the road. He could see where the General's tire tracks had abruptly ended. He knew that he had to get to the bottom of whatever was going on before it was too late, hoping that it wasn't already too late for Scully. He began to walk down the road.
After about twenty minutes of walking Mulder came across a laneway. He decided to check out where it led. At the end of the lane he saw a small farmhouse and a rickety old barn. He approached the house, and the chickens that were by the steps scattered as he walked by them. He could hear movement from within the house, so he knocked on the flimsy screen door. For a moment he heard nothing moving inside. He was about to knock again, when the door was answered by a woman who looked to be in at least her seventies. He noticed her eyes seemed to be filled with a great sadness.
"I'm special agent Fox Mulder, and I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions?" Mulder asked.
"Is this about Bo and Luke?" Lulu asked, her voice sad and worried.
"Yes, it is. I just want to ask you a few questions about them." Mulder said.
"There's nothing to tell about them. Why don't you just leave them alone. They're good ol' boys, they don't mean any harm, it's not their fault." Lulu said, and tears began to fill her eyes.
"Well, that may be. I just want to get to the bottom of this. I think it would be best for everyone involved if you tell me what you know about what's going on in this town." Mulder said.
"Yes, maybe you are right, perhaps it would be best. Come in, I'll tell you all I know." Lulu said, then led Mulder into the front room of the house, where they sat down to talk.
"How do you know Bo and Luke, madam?" Mulder asked
"Call me Lulu. I've known the boys since they were babies. I've always cared for them as though they were my  own." she said, then stopped to wipe the tears from her eyes, "Jesse always, I mean, before he died he raised them to always do the right thing. They are not bad boys they just..."Lulu said, then stopped the tears streaking her cheeks.
"Enos Strate told me about Jesse Duke. When did he die?" Mulder asked
"In 1986. He had a heart attack. The boys were... right there, but were... too late to do anything. It was after that they started to change" Lulu said.
"How did they change?" Mulder asked.
"They became really distant, and then people started to... vanish." she said, trying to bite back the tears, but to no avail. The tears began to flow again.
     "Who vanished?" Mulder asked.
Lulu bit back the tears and took a deep breath, "Basically anyone who ever crossed them before. My husband Jefferson Davis Hogg and all his family, Sheriff Little from over in Chickasaw, and a couple of their cousins that they didn't get along with, Coy and Vance. I don't know who all else. Most people became mindless slaves that just do whatever they tell them to do, like my brother Rosco. He's still the Sheriff but they have, like, control over him." Lulu said, starting to cry.
"What do you mean by 'vanished'? Do you have any idea what happened to them?" he asked.
"I'm not really sure, I think they were sacrificed at the temple by..."Lulu said, then stopped.
     "By whom?" Mulder questioned.
"By  Bo and Luke. They are good boys, they are not evil. I think... it's like they are possessed by the evil." Lulu said.
"What do you know about this evil?" Mulder asked.
"All I really know, is it came out of the book they found. I've only seen it a couple of times, they keep it at the temple out at Eagle Point. It gave them all kinds of powers, and they each wear half an amulet around their neck that they use to focus their powers, and to summon their car. It drives by itself now." Lulu said.
He didn't need to ask what the car looked like, he knew it was the car that had run him off the road earlier.
"Enos had told some of their powers. Do you know what all powers they have?" Mulder asked.
"No, not really. I know they have mind control, they can disappear and reappear anywhere... I don't really know what all else." she said, "I heard about what happened to Enos. That's so sad, he was a good person." she added.
"Do you have any old pictures of Bo and Luke?" Mulder asked.
"Yes, there are still a couple left. They burned most of the pictures after all this started, like they wanted to just forget the past. I'll go get the pictures." Lulu said.
Bo and Luke stood outside of the temple.
"I'll meet you at the farm in about twenty minutes. I'm going to have a talk with Cooter. He seems to be slacking in making them engine parts. I'm gonna talk to him about it and see if we can't increase production." Luke said.
"Yeah, sure cousin, bye now." Bo said.
Lulu came back with the pictures and handed them to Mulder. He immediately recognized Bo and Luke from the garage. He looked up from the pictures and was about to say something when the door slammed closed, breaking the silence that had filled the house. Bo Duke walked into the room. He had a very agitated look on his face.
"What's he doing here? Why did you let him in? Just what are you telling him" Bo questioned Lulu angrily.
"I'm just trying to help you and Luke." Lulu said.
Bo just looked at her angrily, not responding, then turned his glare towards Mulder, who had stood up, and was now  cautiously watching what Bo was doing, his hand resting on the handle of his gun. Bo took a step towards Mulder, then he looked over at a sharp, metal statue that was sitting on the mantel of the fireplace. His hand closed around his amulet, and the statue began to float, then Bo quickly turned back to look at Mulder and the statue flew towards him.  Mulder ducked just before it struck him, the statue hit the wall and crashed to the floor. Mulder drew his gun and aimed it at Bo. His finger closed around the trigger and the gun fired. Lulu who was standing a few feet away watching, horrified, jumped in between Mulder and Bo. The bullet struck her in the stomach, and she fell to the floor, her breathing shallow and blood freely flowed, pooling on the floor.
Bo's eyes filled with tears and sadness, "No!" Bo yelled and rushed to her side and held her head on his knee. "No don't die, you can't die, please don't die." Bo said, his voice soft and sad.
He took a hold of her hand, and she held his back. Mulder stood back watching. He felt bad about Lulu getting shot, and was shocked at the emotions of love and sadness that he saw in Bo. He thought he didn't look at all evil, and that maybe it was that he and his cousin were just possessed by an evil force and that they still did have good in them and could be saved. Bo sat still holding on to Lulu, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"Please don't die." he said, his voice soft and pleading. As he sat holding her dying body, memories of his uncle Jesse's death began to surface in his mind.
                                            *******************
Bo and Luke pulled up to the farm and climbed out the windows of their car. Luke went around to the back of the car to get out the tools. They had just finished repairing the fence on the back forty. Jesse was just coming back in from the field, when he collapsed to the ground.
"Uncle Jesse!!"Bo yelled, and rushed over to him.
Luke dropped the tools and ran over.  He tried to find a pulse, but could not.
"Come on Uncle Jesse, you can't die, you can't leave us!" Bo said, tears streaking his cheeks.
Just then Daisy came pulling up in her jeep. She had just finished her shift at the Boars Nest, and saw everyone all over on the ground.
"What's going on?" Daisy asked worriedly.
"There's no time to explain right now Daisy, just call an ambulance!" Luke said.
They tried CPR, but to no avail. There was nothing they could do, he had a heart attack and was dead.
                                              ******************
Bo's tears began to flow harder. Lulu's breathing was getting slower, then she opened her eyes and looked at Bo.
"Let go of the evil, don't let it consume you. There is still good in you, I know, just let it go and..." her voice was soft and raspy and then trailed off. What she was going to say was cut short by her death.
"No..." Bo said quietly, his voice shaking with sadness. Then he looked up at Mulder, his eyes full of sadness and hate.
"You ain't gonna get away with this!" he said angrily, and then looked back down at Lulu.
Mulder slipped quietly out of the room. He decided to go to check out Eagle Point where she had said the temple was, hoping he'd find Scully there.
Moments after he had left Luke arrived at the farm. He saw Bo sitting on the floor crying,
holding Lulu and her blood pooled and drying on the floor. He rushed over to Bo and knelt down by him and put a hand on his shoulder.
     "What happened here?" he asked.
Bo looked at him, "That fed was here, he...he tried to shoot me and she jumped in between and took the bullet." Bo said, then took a deep breath, "I couldn't do anything." he added, a couple fresh tears streaked his cheeks.
 Luke's eyes brimmed with tears.
"It'll be okay Bo, we'll get that fed for this."
They buried Lulu's body out in the field. Bo knelt down by the grave and tossed a final stone onto the pile, tears streaked his cheeks. Luke stood looking at the grave and started to remember Jesse's funeral and all the sadness he felt flooded back through him, and a single tear rolled down his cheek. He wiped the tear away, then walked over and stood behind Bo and put a hand on his shoulder. Bo looked up at Luke. Tears still filled his eyes.
"Come on, cuz, we gotta get back to the temple." Luke said.
Bo said nothing, he just nodded and stood up.
When they got back to the temple Daisy noticed that they both looked upset.
     "What's wrong?" she asked concernedly.
     "Lulu's dead." Luke replied solemnly.
"Oh, that's awful." Daisy said, walking over to them. She could tell that Bo had been crying and gave him a hug, saying nothing.
Mulder reached the temple after a long walk. The late day sun cast an eerie golden glow onto the black temple. As he approached, a basset hound came out from a bush, growling a deep low growl and snarling, its muzzle was stained with blood, its eyes almost seemed to glow red.
Mulder instinctively took a step backwards from the dog. The dog then lunged at him, snapping. Its jaw closed tightly around his left ankle. Mulder shook his leg trying to shake the dog off. After a couple of shakes, the dog let go and flew off and struck a tree. The dog stood back up and went to lunge at him again. Mulder drew his gun and shot the dog. It let out a yip then fell dead to the ground.
     "What was that?" Daisy asked.
"Sounded like a gunshot coming from outside. We'd better go check it out." Luke said.
Limping, Mulder made his way into the temple and ducked down a dark corridor just as the Dukes were coming down the main hall, unseen by them.
They exited the temple and saw Slash, their dog who guarded the temple, lying dead on the ground from a bullet wound. Daisy started to cry, she buried her head into Bo's shoulder. Bo put his arm around her.
"That fed's here, and now he's in the temple." Bo said.
"Yeah, well, he may have got in, but he's never gonna come back out." Luke said.
"Daisy, why don't you just take your jeep and go back to the farm." Bo said.
"But what about..."Daisy started to say.
"We can handle it, don't worry." Bo said, looking over at Luke who had already started up the temple stairs.
     "You sure?" Daisy asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure." Bo said, looking back at Daisy.
"Just be careful." Daisy said, walking over and getting into her jeep which was behind the bushes by the temple.
Mulder limped down the dimly light corridors of the temple, his leg paining with every step. He tore the bottom of his pants off and tied it around the bite to try to slow the bleeding. Mulder came to a door with a small window, he looked through the window and saw Scully. He tried the door and found it unlocked. He opened the door wide and walked over to Scully. She still sat in a trance like state. He gently shook her, breaking the spell. Scully looked around the small room with a look of puzzlement.
"What? Where am I?" she asked.
"You're in some kind of temple." Mulder said.
"How did I get here?" she asked.
"I don't know, you disappeared from the Hazzard hotel last night. This town has some real dark secrets." Mulder said.
     "Really?" Scully asked.
"Yeah. I think we'd better look around this place." Mulder replied.
"What are we looking for?" Scully asked.
"A book. I don't know what it looks like, but I'm sure we'll know when we find it." Mulder said.
Scully got up and they went out into the corridor. Scully then noticed that Mulder was limping and then saw the blood.
"What happened to your leg?" she asked.
"Got bit by a dog." Mulder said.
"What all did you find out about this town?" Scully asked.
Mulder then proceeded to tell her everything that had happened and what he had found out. They came to the end of the corridor, to the main room of the temple. The book sat on a small pillar. A couple of feet away a fire burned in a vat that also sat on a pillar, next to the sacrificial statue. They went over to the book and opened it. Inside the saw strange markings and writing.
"What kind of language is that?" Scully asked.
"I have no idea." Mulder said, then closed the book and picked it up.
Then they heard something from behind them. They turned around and saw Bo and Luke standing just a few feet away.
"Put the book down." Luke said firmly.
     "Not a chance." Mulder said.
"I said put it down." Luke said, then punched Mulder.
Mulder was unprepared for the punch and stumbled backwards. He flinched at the sharp pain that shot up his hurt leg, and the book slipped out of his grasp and fell into the fire. Within seconds the book was completely engulfed in flames. Outside, dark clouds rolled in blocking the last light of the day. Distant thunder rumbled like a freight train. The storm closed in on Hazzard quickly. Bright strokes of lightening lit the sky, and loud cracks of thunder broke through the silence. The wind grew strong, bending trees, and the rain began to pour down. There was a loud roar, as that of an engine starting up, then the whole temple began to vibrate. The boys' amulets flew off and joined together in mid-air, spinning rapidly. There was a bright flash of light, and a golden ray shot out and struck Luke, and he stumbled back a couple of paces.
"LUKE!!" Bo cried out worriedly and rushed over to him.
Luke's eyes were closed and he stood completely motionless.
"Luke, are you okay?" Bo asked, his voice fraught with worry.
Luke's eyes slowly opened, their colour was completely black as coal and they looked full of anger and hate. He didn't reply, he just stared an ice cold stare at Bo. Then his right fist shot out and punched Bo in the ribs. Bo doubled over in pain, holding his ribs and gasped to catch his breath.
"What'd you do that for?" Bo asked, still trying to catch his breath.
"You are a traitor." Luke responded, his voice cold and emotionless.
Bo got his breath back and looked up at Luke, his eyes full of disbelief at what was happening.
"Luke it's over, it never should've happened and now it is over, give it up!" Bo said taking a step towards Luke.
"Silence!" Luke said and then grabbed Bo and threw him across the room, slamming him against the wall.
Bo's arm struck the sharp edge of one of the candle holders, slicing the upper part of his left arm. Bo winched and grabbed his arm, blood flowed down his arm and soaked the sleeve his shirt. Mulder and Scully stood near the exit watching what was going on. Luke walked over to Bo and then punched him in the ribs. Bo doubled in pain, and Luke then brought his knee up and slammed it into Bo's ribs. Bo dropped to his knees, he let go of his bleeding arm and clenched his ribs. Luke brought his fist down and slammed it into the side of Bo's head, knocking him against the wall, his sore arm struck the wall, sending a hot stabbing pain through it. Bo dropped to the floor.
"You are a traitor, and you will perish." Luke said, his voice cold and hateful. He brought his foot down hard onto Bo's kidneys. Bo flinched from the pain, then Luke kicked him in the side.
Scully went to draw her gun and approach to stop the fight. Mulder put a hand on her shoulder and held her back.
"Its not our fight." he said.
Scully stopped and continued to watch what was happening in silence.
Bo started to get up, and Luke kicked him in the ribs. He fell back against the floor. Luke grabbed Bo by his sore arm and drug him to his feet, then threw him back across the room. Bo fell against the fire pit, it rocked as though it was going to fall, but it steadied itself. Bo's hair was messed, his shirt hung open and his body slightly trembled with fear and pain as he stood up. Luke approached him and hit him in the side of the head. Bo fell back and struck the left side of  his head against the statue, blood flowed from the cut. Luke's shirt was splattered with Bo's blood but he didn't notice nor did he notice Bo's blood on his hands. Bo tried to get up but Luke kicked him in the ribs and he fell back to the floor in pain, then Luke kicked him in the ribs again. Bo gasped to try to catch his breath and a stabbing pain shot through his lungs, he flinched as Luke kicked him in the ribs yet again.  Luke then reached over and picked up his sword.
"Get up now!" he said, his voice harsh and demanding.
Bo didn't move, so Luke kicked him in the ribs again.
"I said get up." then he grabbed Bo by the shirt and drug him to his feet, and pinned him against the statue. Bo's body trembled from the pain. Luke raised the sword and held it against Bo's throat. He looked at Bo with a cold, hard, and unemotional gaze. Luke started to apply more pressure on the sword, and a small trickle of blood began to flow down Bo's throat.
"Luke, please don't..." Bo said his voice soft and pleading.
Luke looked into Bo's eyes and saw they were filled with pain, fear, and benevolence. He broke free from the grasp of the evil that possessed him. He let go of Bo, and Bo dropped limply to the floor not moving. Luke dropped the sword, and then knelt down by Bo. He checked for a pulse and found one, but it was very weak. Bo's breathing was slow and shallow. Luke brushed Bo's hair off his face
"Bo, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to, I..." Luke started to say and then stopped, tears beginning to flow down his cheeks.
Mulder and Scully started to walk over to where they where. Luke looked up at the amulet, a look of realization that it was because of that he tried to kill Bo crossed his face. He stood up walked over to it and then grabbed the amulet, it burned his hand. He flung it into the fire, and then the temple started to crumble. Luke turned back to face Bo, Mulder and Scully were over by him now.
"We have to get out of here, this whole place is going to collapse." Mulder said.
Luke didn't say anything, he just nodded. Then with help from Mulder he picked Bo up and put him across his shoulders, and they fled from the temple. The storm had begun to die down, the thunder and lightening were distant, the wind had died down, and the rain was falling gently, starting to cease.
Daisy had sensed that something was wrong and rushed to the temple. She was just pulling up when they came out. They went over by Dixie, and Luke carefully laid Bo down on the ground.
     "What happened?" Daisy asked worriedly.
"I... I didn't mean to, I never would...I wouldn't hurt Bo." Luke said, tears still in his eyes.
Daisy looked at Luke and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"I know." she said softly, "Is it over? Is the evil gone?" she asked with a touch of hope in her voice.
Luke nodded.  "Yeah, it's over, it's gone."
Moments after, the temple completely collapsed to the ground in a mighty rumble, leaving only small debris. The clouds disappeared and the last light of the day shone through.
They all went back to the farm. Luke bandaged his burnt hand, and changed his clothes. Scully tended to Bo's wounds. Luke walked into the front room. Daisy was sitting on the floor by the couch that Bo was lying on.
"Will he be okay?" Luke asked worriedly as he knelt down by Bo.
"He lost a lot of blood, he needed several stiches, he has four broken ribs, and a mild concussion, but he should be okay. He just needs to get some rest." Scully said.
Luke put a hand softly on Bo's should, and Bo slowly opened his eyes.
"Bo, I'm so sorry, I..." Luke started to say.
But Bo cut him off, "It's not your fault, don't worry about it."
Mulder and Scully then left Hazzard County.
Up on Eagle Point a raven stood pecking through the debris of the temple and found the amulet, which was blackened with soot. It grabbed it in its beak and began to fly off. When it was just a few feet off the ground, the amulet started to glow. The raven cawed out in pain, the amulet fell to the ground, and the raven's dead body plummeted to the ground. The raven's body vanished before it even struck the ground. The amulet lay on the ground. It was golden again, and untarnished. There was a low, rumbling sound and the temple started to rise from the ashes like the phoenix.
