SYNOPSIS
This
updated high-tech variation on
Mission: Impossible focused on the activities
of the Hemisphere Emergency Action Team (H.E.A.T.), a top-secret unit that
fought international crime and terrorism from their base in a hotel in
Acapulco.
The
leaders of the team were Ashley, an aristocratic one-time British secret
agent, and Mike, a cool former operative of the CIA.
The other members were
Cat, a sexy ex-cat burglar; Brett, an attractive guy who often worked undercover;
Krissie, the pretty computer expert who provided the rest of the team with useful data; Tommy, a martial arts expert; Marcos, a former Mexican cabdriver
who was romantically involved with Krissie, and Arthur, the uptight guy
who worked out logistics for most of their missions. Claudio was the hunky
owner of the hotel where their headquarters was located and Mr. Smith,
seen only via video link, was the government official who gave them their
assignments.
The
teams' cover was fashion photography, with Ashley and Mike as photographers
and Cat and Krissie as two of their models (the same plot device was actually
used by CBS a decade earlier in Cover
Up). There was
plenty of action and lots of beaches and bikinis - the opening credit lingered lovingly
on scantily clad cast members and others on the beach. Fabio, the self-promoting
romance novel model, was in those credits but was seldom seen. His acting was
wooden, and he had been completely dropped from the show by early 1994.
When
the series returned for its second season, only Cat and Tommy were still around.
New to the cast were Joanna, their computer expert, and Nicole, a sexy former
spy who had reconstituted the team to help her track down a stolen necklace. The
people they worked for on the initial case provided the money to to keep the
H.E.A.T. team (no longer funded by the government) operational, including all
the high-tech resources they used to aid in solving cases. They were now based
in Puerto Vallarta and their new cover was running Acapulco Beach Fashions, a
clothing store on the beach, and selling a line of beachwear called - surprise!
- "Acapulco Heat."
The
second season of Acapulco H.E.A.T. was produced in 1996 for European
distribution but was not aired by any stations in the U.S. It surfaced in the
States for the 1998-1999 season. Both seasons' episodes were filmed on location
in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
