Little things that make me go hmmm....

Overall I guess that I shoud have expected RJ to react this way. I have to keep going back to when he knew he was innocent of Drew's murder and look what happened. The same idiots at the police station are still in charge. RJ want to protect Dorian. And since Dorian is truly his only friend, I guess I can understand it. I like Dorian and RJ's friendship so as much as I hate that Dorian was the driver, I am glad this story is keeping RJ and Dorian in touch.

Robin Strasser (Dorian) and Timothy have some powerful chemistry and they are about the only two people I can actually watch all their scenes without hitting my fast forward button; even if I don't like the story.
June 2, 1999

Dorian had hit Jessica earlier in the evening and she is frantic. She is with RJ now in her living room.
Dorian: "I really appreciate you dropping everything and coming over here. I know I woke you up."
RJ: "At 4 in the morning. Well what makes you think that?"
Dorian: "I just need a friend to drive to the hospital. I can't drive myself, my hands are shaking too badly."
RJ: "And your car is evidence. One look at your front end and the cops will know right away who hit Jessica Buchanan and left the scene."
Dorian: "Well they're going to know sooner or later..."
RJ: "Not necessarily."
Dorian: "Yes, because I'm going to tell them; but first I have to tell Viki and Jessica. I hope it's not too late that Jessica and her baby have..."
RJ: "Take it easy, Dorian. We don't know a thing about her condition."
Dorian: "I did it. I did it and I need to make Viki understand."
RJ: "How are you planning to do that?"
Dorian: "By telling the truth -- that Mel came to me thorugh Madame Delphina. That he said his death would really be a tragedy if I didn't get on with my life. And so I decided right then and there I'd get in my car, I would go to Jessica's party and I would beg Viki to forgive me. Then suddenly there was Jessica in my headlights and it was too late for me to stop. Yeah...so I'll just make Viki understand."
RJ: "Do what you want Dorian. Say what you want but I'm tellin you right now there is no way Viki is ever going to believe that your running down Jessica was anything but deliberate. And you know what, outside of yours truly, no one else in this town will believe it either."

Dorian: "I think you're wrong. Viki knows the truth when she hears it."
RJ: "Not when she thinks she knows it already. Dorian you stood up at Mel's memorial service and blamed Viki for his death; swearing you would get even."
Dorian: "But when I tell them that Mel came to me, what he said --"
RJ: "Oh come on, Dorian. Get real."
Dorian: "It's the truth."
RJ: "It doesn't matter. If you tell anyone that the best you can hope for is a straight jacket and padded cell."
Dorian: "I can get Madame Delphina to vouch for me."
RJ: "Good. That's good. She can have the padded cell right next to yours. Dorian have you told anybody about this visit from Mel?"
Dorian: "No."
RJ: "Did anyone see you hit Jessica?"
Dorian: "I'm pretty sure Jessica must have seen me."
RJ: "Did you try to get help?"
Dorian: "How could you say such a thing? Of course I did. I called 911. I got the operator. I could hear her, she couldn't hear me. Then my phone just...it...I could hear Cristian calling Jessica's name. I was only trying to do something good. How could it become such a nightmare? All my life people have been saying I am a bad person. So I don't know why I don't just accept that."
RJ: "Because you're not. Dorian I do business with truly bad people everyday. And trust me you don't make the cut. You didn't intend to hurt Viki's daughter."
Dorian: "You believe what I told you?
RJ: "Yes I do. We're two of a kind. We're masters of the dark side and that's how everyon's going to see us no matter what we do. We try to do good, they say 'Oh they're up to something. When we do bad it's 'See, I told you so.'"
DORIAN: What do you think is going to happen to me?

R.J.: "Hank will take a hard line and you'll do hard time. But you knew that. You've seen too much to believe in just for people like us."
Dorian: "What do you think I should do?"

R.J.: "Exactly what I tell you. I mean to the letter. And if you do I believer I can make all of this go away."

Dorian: " How can you make what I did to Jessica go away? I have to take responsibility for it even if Viki doesn't believe me."
R.J.: "Dorian if you're having come dark night of the soul, take my advice -- just sleep it off."
Dorian: "I'm going to feel the same way when I wake up."
R.J.: "Ok, but at least you'll look your best when you turn yourself in. In the meantime, just let me develop some options, ok? Now did you leave any evidence at Crossroads? Ok. Ok. Never mind. I'll check that myself. What care were you driving?"
Dorian: "My red sports car."
R.J.: "Mind if I take it for a spin? I'm going to show it to a friend who's an experter in accidents of this nature."
Dorian: "Why would you do something like that for me?"
R.J.: "Maybe because I like you. And because I enjoy driving my brother and his assistants nuts. Come on now, keys please."
R.J.: "Now don't speak to anyone till I get back, ok? Now just go upstairs, get some rest."
Only one thing bothered me about RJ and that is that he acted first without checking with Dorian. The night before he told Dorian to wait and to let him check some things out. I wasn't surprised that RJ knew where to go, I guess I just thought Dorian would have a say in it. June 3, 1999
R.J.: Hey, Tony. Long time no see.

Tony: "Hey Man, what's happening?"
RJ: "Well, I have this friend, had a little accident. It's like the fifth time and she doesn't want her old man to know; so I need her car to disappear completely."
Tony: "Well, making a vehicle disappear is going to cost you. This friend of yours got some major dough?"
RJ: "Well, my friend is prepared to pay a premium to make sure that nobody ever hears about this. I mean, no DMV, no cops, nobody."
Tony: "So where is this vehicle that never existed?"
RJ: "It's out front. Little red sports job."
Tony looks out the window and whistles, "Nice car."
RJ: "What car?"
Tony: "Beats me, I don't see a thing."
Great stuff with Dorian and RJ again. That is what I meant though about RJ getting rid of the car before seeing how Dorian would feel the next morning. For all he knew, she could've called the cops while he was dumping the car. Now he is in deep, too. He is covering up a crime and trying to prevent Dorian from confessing. And why is it that RJ can just hang around the police station without anyone being suspicious? Come on, Hank wake up. You know RJ doesn't hang around cops if he doesn't have to. Concerned or not, a little phone call would have been enough to show his concern about Jessica Buchanan. June 4, 1999
The scene is at the police station. Tea, Hank and Bo are discussing the hit-and-run.

TEA: "I say we go for murder two -- vehicular homicide.
Hank: "If it was an accident, you might not do better than manslaughter."
Tea: "Leaving a poor pregnant girl in the middle of the road? I think a jury will see that as depraved indifference."
Hank: "I don't to overreach and lose the case. And let's not forget we don't havea driver yet."
Tea: "OH, don't worry this one's not getting away." Tea then walks over to the water cooler where RJ has been lurking.
Tea: "Can I help you, RJ?"
RJ: "So, Llanview's lovely legal steamroller is out looking for new civil rights to flatten?"
Tea: "We're looking for whoever ran into Jessica Buchanan, killer her baby, and put her in a coma."
RJ: "Yeah, I'm sorry about that. Jessica's a good kid."
Tea: "Do you know anything about it?"
RJ: "Me? What could I possibly know? That's right -- I'm Llanview's official number one suspect."
Tea: "Do you know anything?"
RJ: "Well, if I did why would I help you?"
Tea: "Then why are you here?"
RJ: "Well, this is still a public place maintained by taxpayers, of whom I am one.
Tea: "RJ. do yourself a favor and everyone else a favor -- stay out of the way."
Tea walks away and Hank walks up.
Hank: "What was that about?"
RJ: "Just a couple of old friends shooting the breeze."
Hank: "Alright, RJ, this is not fun and games. Why are you here?"
RJ: "Well, you're looking for a hit-and-run car, right? And I have friends in the auto body business who might not be eager to speak to your people, but they might tell me if they've had emergency work in the last few hours. Do you have any idea what the car looks like?"
Hank: "We don't have a description yet. But if anyone sees a car with a newly damaged front end we'd like to hear about it."
RJ: "Hmmm....well let me amke some calls."
Hank: "RJ, thanks."
RJ: Well, don't act surprised. I like Jessica, too."
Later at Dorian's.
RJ: "Now, this was in your car. Is it the one you used to call 911?"
Dorian: "Yes. Yes, but it didn't work."
RJ: "Well, the battery is dead. Are you sure the call even went through?"
Dorian: "Yes, but they couldn't hear me."
RJ: "But they answered, so they'll have your number. They'll be able to trace the call and they'll know that you called 911 around the time of the accident."
Dorian: "Ok, it doesn't matter."
RJ: "Well, of course it does. You were on a cell phone so you could have been anywhere. But they couldn't hear what you said, so they don't know why you called. So we can say that you were in your car, you thought you saw a fire or something and then you realized you were wrong."

Dorian: "What difference does it make?"
RJ: "The difference is you won't get caught. Dorian, the cops have no witnesses.
They don't even know what the car looked like. But if they find someone who saw
it, you can now prove that you sold it last week."
Dorian: "What's that?"
RJ: "The bill of sale for your car which you sold to a Mr. Frank Turner. And I wouldn't bet on the cops being able to find him."
Dorian: "But none of this is true."
RJ: "Well, that's the point, Dorian."
Dorian: "RJ, I want to thank you very much for everything that you've tried to do for me and that you've done for me; but I can't live like this. I can't live with all thse lies. Here."
RJ: "You can't be serious. Dorian, just listen to me."
Dorian: "I've made up my mind, I'm going to go to Viki."
RJ: "Dorian, going to Viki is a huge mistake."
Dorian: "I have to do it."
RJ: "No, listen -- I was just at the police station and they trying to charge this
driver with murder."
Dorian: "I'm not going to the police, I'm going to Viki."
RJ: "You think she won't tell the police?"
Dorian: "I don't care, ok? I know I could go to jail. I don't care about that, either. I didn't mean to hit Jessica. I never, never, ever wanted to hurt her or her baby. And I have to tell Viki that myself."
RJ: "What makes you think she going to care, let alone believe you."
Dorian: "She has to. She has to. She has to believe that it wasn't my envy and my hatred of her that caused that baby's death. And if she believes it then maybe I can, too. And I have to believe it, I do."
RJ: "Well -- Well, that's beautiful, Dorian, that's just beautiful. I'm moved, believe me but if you think that you and Viki are just going to fall into each other's arms you better think again. She will bring this whole town down on you and me because I was fool enough to try and help you again."
Dorian: "RJ, you're not involved in this."
RJ: "Wake up, woman, I got rid of the car. That's destruction of evidence -- a crime. And you better believe Tea and the Llanview police department would just love to have that on me."
Dorian: "I promise you no one is going to know that you're involved in this."
RJ: "Only if you keep your mouth shut."
