Dorian's livingroom, Sophia just returned from shopping and finds RJ waiting for her. Sophia: You're still here?
RJ: Mm-hmm. Have you put away all those groceries, Miss Pellegrino?
Sophia: How do you know my name anyway?
RJ: oh, I know a great many things.
Sophia: Well, aren't we full of ourselves. So, do you count breaking and entering high up on your list of worldly knowledge?
RJ: Oh, now, don't be stupid. I'm an old friend of your hostess. You might call me her avenging angel.
Sophia: So where is she, Mr. Avenger?
RJ: Change of plans. Dorian's on a short Swiss vacation.
Sophia: Her daughter, huh?
RJ: Yes, her daughter, whom she hasn't seen for a while, and this was a good week to take a trip.
Sophia: And why is that?
RJ: Well, I think you know why. There have been some recent developments.
Sophia: Darn it. This is the week she was going to teach me how to hold a fork.
RJ: Well, maybe you should take a trip, too.
Sophia: Someplace cooler?
RJ: Oh, definitely.
Sophia: Why should I do that? I got no heat coming down on me.
RJ: You think not?
Sophia: Look, I got a right to live a nice life, too.
RJ: Not at my friend's expense.
Sophia: Dorian and I have an arrangement, and so far it is working out just fine for the both of us.
RJ: oh. Well, now I see you, Sophia. You're not going to turn Dorian in, not now, not tomorrow, not ever, because as soon as you do, your guest pass to the good life expires.
Sophia: You never know. Time is on my side, after all.
RJ: Mistaken once again. The police are zeroing in on a suspect, and it's not Dorian.
Sophia: Who is it?
RJ: Well, someone who will be much more interesting to watch the police investigate. So your little sojourn here is just about to come to an end. My advice? Save yourself a lot of grief and get out now. Get out while the getting is good.
Sophia: Now, why would I do that? I'm just getting settled in here.
RJ: Now, don't fool yourself, girl. I made Dorian disappear, and no one's the wiser. So who'd notice if I made you disappear, permanently?
Sophia: What are you going to do, slap me around? I dare you. Give me a one-way ticket right back to the slums? Whatever it is you think you've got in store for me, I can guarantee you I've had it a whole lot worse. I got nowhere to go from here but up.
RJ: Hmm. You know, the baring of fangs is only effective if you have a bite to back up your bark.
Sophia: And what's your bite? You're going to knock me off, then dump my body in some reservoir somewhere?
RJ: Who'd miss you? I don't think anyone would even file a report.
Sophia: You know, it might surprise you, but I actually do have a family. You really want to be responsible for taking away my mom's only means of support?
RJ: and I'd kick her while she's down, too.
Sophia: Ooh, now you've got me really scared.
RJ: sophia, I like you. But don't underestimate me.
Sophia: Don't underestimate me.
RJ: I'm warning you. I'm terribly loyal to my friends.
Sophia: Now, that is something I find very sexy. But you know what I can't figure out? For a guy who's got all this danger going for him, why are you doing Dorian's dirty work? I want to know what's in it for you.

RJ: Well, Come on. Come on.
Sophia: Keep your pants on. Takes me a while.
RJ: Gin.
Sophia: I hate this game.
RJ: That's because you're losing. It's my deal.
Sophia: RJ, you know, if we've got to be attached at the hip, fine. You seem like a pretty cool guy. But for God's sake, can we please do something a little more exciting than playing cards?
RJ: Well, I'm sorry the entertainment isn't up to your standards, but I'm waiting to hear from Dorian.
[telephone rings and Sophia tries to beat RJ to answering it.]
RJ: No, no. I'll get that. Thank you. Hello. Yes, it's me. How was your flight? Oh. Well, how's Cassie? Well, I'm sure just having you there will help. No, look, everything here is under control. Just relax and take care of your daughter. (to Sophia) Didn't your mama teach you to play fair? (back to Dorian) Yeah, Dorian. Uh-huh. Look. Ok, I'll talk to you later.
Sophia: like you wouldn'thave snuck a peek at my cardsif i left the table.uh-huh. So, how's Dorian? Having a nice vacation?
RJ: no.
Sophia: Daughter's not doing so well?
RJ: No.
Sophia: Now, that is sad -- go all that way and still not get what you want. RJ: well, I'm afraid Switzerland may not have been far enough. She still wants to confess.
Sophia: hey, maybe it'd be good for her, you know? Clear her conscience.
RJ: oh, now, this from the woman who wants to use her to climb into society?
Sophia: there's more than oneway to get your bootin the door.
RJ: Well, what do you have in mind? Sophia: let's play poker. My deal. So, are you a gambling man?
Joey and Kelly walk in surprised to see RJ and Sophia.

Kelly: let me grab my portfolio, and we'll go.
Joey: all right.
[Sophia and RJ laugh]
Sophia: Joey, it's good to see you. So good I can feel it.
[telephone rings]
RJ: Ah. I've got it. Hello, Kelly, Joey.excuse me. Lord-Hayes residence.
Lindsay: Who's this?
RJ: Oh, no, no, you first.
Lindsay: RJ? It's Lindsay. I need to speak to Dorian rightaway. It's extremely important.
RJ: Oh, well, she's not here right now.
Lindsay: Well, you tell her to call me the minute she walks in. It's urgent. I'm at the police station. Tell her to call me there.
RJ: Yeah, I'll give her that message as soon as I see her. Mm-hmm. Well, what do you think? Will Dorian want to contribute to the Llanview historical society?
Kelly: Where is Dorian?
RJ: oh, well, she's visiting Cassie.
Kelly: What? She's in Switzerland? Since when?
RJ: Well, Cassie's doctor called. It seems she's had a slight setback.
Kelly: Oh, no.
RJ: Yeah. Yeah, I'm afraid so. And after what happened to Joey's sister -- well, she hopped on the first flight.
Kelly: Well, then can you tell me why the two of you are here while Dorian's away?
RJ: Oh, well, I was here when the call came in, so I drove her to the airport, and -- well, she asked me to keep an eye on things.
Kelly: Well, fine. You can keep an eye on herthings. (to Sophia) And you can keep your filthy hands off mine.
RJ: Oh, now, don't worry, Kelly, Ms. Pellegrino is under my supervision.
Kelly: I'm going to go upstairs and get what I need. Be right back.
Joey: All right.
RJ: Ah.so, Joey, you take any prize-winning photos lately?
Joey: No, not lately.
Sophia: You should take some of me. I bet they'd win a lot of prizes.
RJ: What about crime, huh? Any major crimes going unsolved? I just need to know in case Det. Sykes is going to pay me a visit.
Joey: Well, if you're interested, lindsay Rappaport just got arrested.
RJ: Oh, not by Bo, I bet.
Joey: Yep, by Bo himself. Actually, it was for the hit-and-run.
RJ: Oh, no kidding.
Sophia looking hungrily at Joey (why?): RJ, why don't you see what you can find out about Lindsay. And use the phone in the foyer.
RJ: Yeah, I'll do that.
