Little Things that make me go Hmmmm...
Gee, here it is February 15, 1998 and do you think RJ and Jacara got stuck in the same snowstorm as Joey, Kevin, and Kelly. We will probably get to hear about it -- oh yay!!! Well if they are stuck in the snowstorm as they head back to Llanview, PA at least we know that Bo's gut feeling doesn't tell him that RJ is the rapist as well as a kidnapper. No, his gut feeling, the same gut feeling that he knows that RJ is the kidnapper, tells him that Todd is the rapist. No evidence, but hey, who needs evidence? He couldn't find the killer of Mortimer last year either because that evidence told him it was Antonio; and I think his gut feeling told him that RJ was the killer. Wrong on both counts. Hold on though, whether there is a light at the end of the tunnel, I don't know, but the Labines have been fired and replaced by some name I don't recognize. I wonder -- will RJ and Jacara continues to have events happen off screen while the new writer gets her stuff together. Are the rumors true that Marva Hicks has been let go? I hope not -- I may not like RJ and Jacara or Jacara and Hank but I do like Marva. And it isn't that I don't like her with either man -- I just don't like how the romantic pursuant of either man of Jacara, or Jacara's pursuing them has been happening off screen. I don't like how we are expected to accept this triangle of sorts with no real lead in, when oodles of time has been spent on Blair/Ian/Kelly; Todd/Tea/Andrew; Kelly/Joey/Dorothy;Mel and Dorian; and even the
renewed friendship of Blair and Max.
I am not going to complain about the Crazy Cramer Crew because in the end, I think that was only good writing the Labines did. Robin Strasser was fantastic, along with Phyllis Sommerville as Ms. Stonecliff; not to mention Sonya Cramer. Dorian's past has kept me watching, and I thank these three women for keeping me interested in OLTL...well, aside from maintaining this page hoping to catch glimpses of the Gannon Brothers.
And so here it is Thursday, February 5th-- a whole week as gone by since that cute little incident with the Gannon brothers and their rooms. Gee, are you wondering what they are doing now? Do you still think that they are standing in the middle of the hallway contemplating what restaurant they should go to? In the meantime I have been yawning through most of OLTL -- especially Kevin's little whine scene with Vicki about how Cassie called Andrew and not him. Uh gee, Kevin do you thing maybe Cassie is a bit concerned about River? I wonder -- and then we get to see yet another scene between Kelly and Blair; same story just a tad bit different dialogue but it all amounts to the same thing. Then there is Mel who is going save Dorian but can't seem to save himself or even care about what his daughter maybe going through. I guess the Cramer's have given him a reason to live. Oh and then we get to sit through Bo and Nora rehashing Bo's "gut" feeling that RJ is guilty. THAT IS NOT WHAT I WANT TO SEE -- HELLO LABINES!!!! What are RJ and Hank doing in NYC? Am I going to hear about it, but not see it. Like the way I was just waiting to see the aftermath of Bo getting rough with RJ in the police station. By the time RJ was on again, I am sure most viewers forgot about it...but I didn't. I guess that is why Timothy D. Stickney was surprised that he was nominated for a NAACP Image Award -- what happened to that promised storyline for the Gannon Family?
What is up with everyone all acting like Rachel is this fragile baby? Last I looked Rachel was an adult; she knows that RJ and Jacara are interested. So what does it matter? Because in the end Rachel can inadvertently let it slip to Daddy that RJ and Jacara aren't sleeping together!!!! And another thing, they couldn't come up with a better plot device than having RJ and Hank booking a roomo at the same hotel. Oh Puhleeze. RJ sure is being cute though; I love his scenes with Jacara and all his double talk. I am having fun watching him, but I am not enjoying listening to Jacara put up all these obvious walls so that she can eventually end up somehow in Hank's arms.
Well here we go again -- the PTb are going to reattempt the triangle between the Gannon Brothers. I don't know why Hank and RJ have to be going after the same woman, save for the fact that she is the only eligible African American woman in Llanview other than Rachel, who is one's daughter and the other's niece. I wouldn't have minded them adding yet another African American male to the cast so that RJ and maybe Travis could vie for the attentions of one Miss Jacara Principal; but the brothers, whose relationship is tenuous at that as it is. What happened to delving into the Gannon's family background to see what makes these two brothers tick so differently?
1/13/98 Isn't that some stuff? Mel Hayes has now been thrown into the kidnapping story. He shows up at Club Indigo under the ruse that he can't get a drink anywhere else. Like he walked 14 or was it 15 blocks, and between the Dorf's apartment and Club Indigo there was no place for him to get a drink? Besides after walking that many blocks, he well should have been sobered up. OH PUHLEEZE!!!! Talk about a contrived set up! Why throw this man into the story? Do you think he will follow this story the same way he followed the warehouse fire? Max was his suspect then; what happened?
1/12/98 What? Did PTB realize that we weren't thrilled about Nora's menopause so now RJ has been relegated to yet another plot filler to benefit a story for Bo and Nora? Oh give me a break!!!! Here I go again on my soapbox, but I can't help it. Do I really care how Bo feels these days? Not really? This storyline is starting to bug me big time because it appears to me that it is no longer about RJ, Hank or anyone else connected to the Gannons or the kidnapping; now it is about Nora and Bo's marital problems. Georgie will be right in the thick of things and when they solve Bo and Nora's marital problems, then the kidnapping will have been forgotten. Where will RJ be? Who knows -- he will probably be off screen locating the twins to return them to a man who really doesn't have time to mourn for them. Oh yay!!!! I can hardly wait!!
1/7/98 Isn't RJ just delightful? I just love watching him make Bo (or anyone for that matter, except his brother)furious. I just hope that this storyline doesn't turn into more of a Bo storyline, and less of an RJ storyline. I am really quite fed up with; after that scene in Nora's office she meets him for lunch. He is not too happy with her doing business with RJ. I don't know what Bo's problem is but maybe he is the one going through menopause.
Wouldn't you like to see more of RJ getting in Claude's face than Bo Buchanan getting into RJ? or more of Hank, Rachel, Jacara, and Carlotta supporting RJ and RJ's reaction to all this support?
I Know I would!!!

RJ Gannon
Well for those who missed it RJ did make an appearance the week of February 23 - 27th; short but excellent as usual. He had a little run in with Max; he had somewhat of something with the ever obnoxious Bo Buchanan. I am beginning to root for the Senator; didn't think anyone could be more obnoxious right now, but I was wrong. Then there was that scene where Nora decides that no she can't work for Blue Jay Records; goes to RJs office to inform him. Oh humm -- watching RJ tend to his bonsai tree was more interesting that listening to her little defense of why she is quitting. This whole thing rubs me wrong, but then I never liked the kidnapping story in the first place. So let's hope that RJ and Hank are seen more often. Today is a new month!
On Feb. 5th, as if the Labines could read my mind, I thought I was going to be treated to an evening of dining with the Gannon men and the beautiful women in their lives. But noooo, what did I see, I saw the four of them sitting at table at a restaurant, make small talk when Claude interrupts their dinner with a phone call. The scene was so short that it was over before I could get interested, but it bring up Hank's antenna as RJ told him some lame excuse about having to get back because the restaurant may run out of booze during this storm. Jacara agreed to go back with him; Hank and Carlotta stayed. Oh hum.
1/26/98 - 1/29/98 RJ is in his office working when he lets himself daydream about Jacara as the song "just my imaginiation" is playing in his head. RJs fantasy takes him to Jacara walking into his offce, sexily taking off her coat, walking over to him sittin on his desk in front of him and starts kissing him. His daydream is broken up with Jacara actually walking into his office with an "all business" look on her face. Seeing that she startled him she apologizes for interrupting his deep thoughts. She starts discussing business and he just keeps smiling at her; Jacara looks uncomfortable. As they discuss a schedulling conflict RJ suggests that they run on up to NYC to check out some new talent. Jacara thinks it might be fun until RJ scares her with all the other stuff that they can do also. Like check out some clubs looking for new talent; during the day they can window shop, maybe see a show etc. Jacara isn't sure but as long as it is about what it is about, business. Jacara says that she won't mind as long as he remembers that he doesn't put any pressure on her to sleep with him. He jokingly says that it has been 24 hours; she retorts that she is serious and he acknowledges that he remembers but he doesn't want them to lose their spontaneity. He starts kissing her and tells that they will both know when the time is right. Later Rachel walks in on them sitting on the sofa passionately embraced and kissing; she apologizes and leaves. Jacara starts getting all concerned because she doesn't want Rachel to get the wrong idea. RJ says she already knows that she should knock first. No, Jacara wants to make sure Rachel knows that she and RJ aren't sleeping together. RJ doesn't think it necessary that Jacara explain anything but Jacara says that their relationship will affect everyone and their partnership. RJ jokes that if they get together they will send Rachel a memo. Jacara still insists on talking to Rachel. RJ basically shrugs ok and as Jacara leaves RJ makes reservations at the same hotel as Hank and Carlotta. Gee, what are the odds?
The next day RJ and Jacara show up at "the hotel" check in, but do not go up to their adjoining rooms right away. Jacara wants to check out this shop she likes so much so they leave their bags at the desk. RJ decides to amuse himself before going up to his room. Exit RJ and Jacara and enter Hank and Carlotta. Carlotta wants to know about the hotel, commenting on how nice it is and Hank tells her that RJ recommended it to him. Carlotta gets the key to their room and Hank checks out the conference. After Carlotta gets into the room, she decides to take a shower and leave a note telling Hank to join her, plus a trail of her lingerie leading to the the shower. In the meantime, downstairs Jacara picks up her key; then RJ comes up after she disappears to pick up his key; and finally Hank checks in and picks up his. Except for RJ and Hank's desk clerk the other clerk were different; and this desk looks totally confused thinking that maybe Hank had already picked up is key. Jacara was given the correct key; but RJ was given the key to Hank and Carlotta's room while Hank was given the key to RJs room adjoining Jacara's room. RJ walks in and sees the black underwear leading to the shower, reads the note and he gets out of his clothes as fast as he can. In the meantime, Hank is over in RJs room undressing, while Jacara had changed into some lovely red lingerie and walks into RJs room. Hank looks up and they are both surprised to see each other. Meanwhile RJ scampers into the shower only to have Carlotta scream, and as Jacara and Hank are wondering where RJ and Carlotta they hear the screams. All four of them meet out into the hallway; RJ is apologizing profusely. Then with a big smile RJ suggests that they go out to dinner.
1/19/98 - 1/23/98 Ok, last week was about RJ and Jacara starting off as partners, again. An old client, Travis, that used to come the Club pre break J&RJ partnership break up shows up. Jacara and Travis are having a kind of flirty conversation when RJ appears; he immediatley zooms in on that Jacara is talking to a nice looking man, so he plants himself behind Jacara whose back is to the bar. He's eavesdropping and as it looks like Travis might me asking Jacara out RJ glares at him with that handsoff look. Travis cuts the conversation short and Jacara turns around and sees RJ who quickly flashes a big smiles at her. She tells him she would like to see the look he gave Travis; looking all innocent (if that is possible for RJ) asks what look? In the meantime, Carlotta and Hank have come to the club for dinner, and Hank is seated with his back to the bar so he doesn't see Claude Charnoneux enter. Claude tells RJ that he has hit a brick wall finding the Holden twins. RJ is furious and asks him if he is nuts showing up like that and his brother the DA is here also; doesn't he know that he is being followed? Enter the undercover that is following him. He doesn't want to hear that Claude has no leads and that Claude better come up with something. They then stage a heated argument and Claude hits RJ upside the head as RJ makes it look like he is kicking Claude out of his club. Hank hears the scuffle and he jumps between RJ and Claude and Claude leaves as RJ tells him never to come back. Hank is wondering what Claude is doing there? RJ informs him that he runs an establishment that is open to the public and he can't prevent people like Claude from entering. Jacara reappears and sees Claude leaving and goes up to RJ and also wants to know what Claulde is doing there, and that the last thing they need is to have someone like him hanging around since Bo is already suspicious of RJ and Claude. RJ assures them that he has everything under control, and Hank returns to his table. Then RJ suggests to Jacara that they take the night off. He invites her back to his apartment. She agrees to go with him. When she gets there she is quite impressed with RJs apartment as he gives her the tour. Eventually after they banter back and forth RJ makes his move and they start getting hot and heavy; then Jacara puts the breaks on and tells him that she isn't into casual one night stands. RJ says he isn't either; she says that she takes her relationships very seriously and that she isn't about to hop in bed with him tonight. He says he understands and she asks him to back off and she will let him know when she is ready to sleep with him. She leaves, but the next morning she shows up with a bag full of groceries to cook him breakfast. She walks in all wet from the storm and as RJ helps her with her coat off, he sees that her coat didn't protect her very well. He offers to let her get into some dry clothing and she takes him up on it. As she goes to change there is a knock on the door and it is Hank. (Who would have guessed.) He enters telling RJ that he has a problem and RJ wants to know what that has to do with him. Hank clarifies himself and says that he needs RJs help with Rachel's surprise birthday party. He would like to have it at the Club with her favorite band. RJ says he can help and would be happy too. As they are discussing the party out pops Jacara with just RJs shirt on. Hank looks visibly upset, finishes up his conversation with RJ and leaves. Jacara looks at RJ and says you didn't tell him I was here. RJ responds that the opportunity didn't come up, they were busy talking about Rachel's birthday party. Jacara says tht RJ misled Hank into thinking that she spent the night. RJ doesn't seem to have a problem with Hank thinking that. They went on to cook and eat their breakfast complimenting each other on their kitchen skills. RJ points out that they worked quite well as a team in the kitchen hinting that they coould be a team in all things besides the kitchen.
1/13/98 Mel Hayes shows up at Club Indigo, to drink of course; all because his daughter wouldn't let him drink at her place, and Blair made him feel guilty (I'm guessing) at Rhodi's. I don't know, I know some alcoholics and they don't care who is there, they will drink wherever they damn please. Anyway, he ends up at Club Indigo, RJ walks in and Mel asks him directly if kidnapped the Holden twins. Mel, the drunk, is always a reporter - drunk or sober. Mel knows RJ so well that he actually tells RJ that he acts to cool to not be involved after RJ denies having anything to do with the kidnapping.
1/12/98 RJ, Jacara and Rachel show up at Nora's office right after she has an argument with Bo about her clientele; mainly RJ. Rachel asks her mom to represent BlueJay Records; Nora isn't too sure about it because the last time she represented RJ it didn't go to well. RJ said he was cool with Nora representing them because he figures that she has learned something through the years and he can trust her. Nora makes sure that they understand that she will be working directly with Jacara and Rachel, and RJ stay in the background. He said he could do that. Nora agrees.
1/7/98-1/8/98 RJ and Jacara are at Club Indigo discussing their new partnership; Jacara tells RJ that she has Nora working on it and she wants Nora to put every devious clause in the contract with new language. RJ tells Jacara that there is no need to do that because she just has to tell him what she wants because he wants them back together. Then they discuss the mistakes they made their first time around and RJ says that they can learn together how to make this partnership work.
Hank and Bo arrive and RJ greets his brother with "Hello Henry' then turns to Bo and asks, "Is this business or pleasure"? Bo responds that he takes a great deal of pleasure in his business; and RJ replies "You take a pleasure in your business, and my business is pleasure. Maybe we have more in common than you think!" Then Bo starts in on RJ about how RJ lied to him about Claude; and RJ wonders how, he told Bo that he knew him. Bo says that RJ misled him, because Claude works for him. RJ tells Bo that he should be careful who he listens to because Antonio has in own self-serving agenda. Bo wants RJ to elaborate but RJ tells him No, he isn't inclined to to tell Bo anything. When this is official then he will talk about it, as he walks away. Bo is fuming as he tells RJ that he will let him know when he books him. Hank butts in and tells Bo that that is enough and that he is way out of line and that this is not the place. Hank tells Bo he will not have him compromise the case all Bo has is circumstantial evidence; Hank will not have him harrassing the suspect. RJ tells Hank that it is ok and makes other remarks that I missed. (My family came in and wanted to discuss their day, so I only half heard what RJ said to Hank. While Bo and Hank are sitting at a table, RJ and Jacara are at the bar. Jacara comments on how cool RJ is being and he says he is having fun with this.
The next day RJ, Jacara and Rachel are meeting with Nora in her office. As they all greet each other, Georgie excuses herself but Nora tells her she doesn't want her to leave; she wants Georgie to take notes and be a referee if necessary. RJ quips that no referee will be necessary because Jacara's interests are his interests and Jacara replies with "Oh sure, you say that now"! RJ says he thinks it's going to be a piece of cake and Nora butts in with "I don't want to be pessimistic" while Rachel interrupts her with "Mama you do that so well." RJ laughs. Nora goes on to say that pessimism is appropriate and advises RJ that he should have his own lawyer present. RJ tells her that that won't be necessary; there shouldn't be anything that he can't handle and he will have Gabe look it over. Nora brings up that Jacara opted out of their first contract and says that she assumes that Jacara will want the same options. Jacara agrees while RJ disagrees; he doesn't want it to be so easy for her to walk next time she doesn't like something; he wants a commitment from her like he is committed and Jacara agrees. As they discuss their contract Bo walks in and is immediately not pleased to see RJ there. Everyone greets Bo, including RJ, and Bo just looks at him with distaste. Bo is there to take Nora to lunch, and Nora tells him she will be finished in a minute and to wait outside. Rachel notices Bo's behavior and questions about what that was all about. Nora tries to explain it by saying that this kidnapping case has him upset. Jacara agrees as she mentions Bo's behavior at Club Indigo the day before; and that even Hank called him on his unprofessionalism. Rachel surprised looks at RJ and says "You didn't tell about that." RJ tells Rachel and the others that is it was no big deal. Like he had told Jacara the night before "that is just Bo's twitch"; it's a conditioned response; someone sneezes he comes to RJ to see if he I blew pepper in their face. Jacara disagrees and says that she thought it was a big deal and so did Hank. Nora sounds surprised when she hears that Hank called him out for his unprofessionalism. Rachel comments that she wishes Bo would concentrate on soemone other than RJ. Georgie interjects that she thinks that they were almost finished and gets their minds off Bo and back to business.
