Part One
Just then she heard the train door open and looked over just as the Conductor announced that their next stop was Lexington, Kentucky..Rebecca Smiled to herself. 'This would be nice'.
At the Logan's house, Lexy was making her way to her father, Ned Logan's office. They were supposed to go into town. Normally Lexy would rather ride one of her Father's horses or climb one of the tall tree's in the yard but, not today. Today was an exception. The whole town was buzzing. Since Mr. Tompson died there hasn't been a new doctor in town for awhile. So the town mayor got worried and sent word to Washington, DC. They would take any doctor who would be willing to come to Lexington. Lexy had heard her Father tell ASA Winters that "This will be the biggest thing to happen in this town in 10 years." The whole family was going to the party that the town was throwing for the new Doctor. "PA, come on we are going to be late!" Lexy yelled through the house. "I hear you Lexy," Ned replied as he was leaving his office.
When they got there, half the town was already waiting for the train to arrive. All of the Logan's ended up getting close to the back of the crowd.The Mayor told the crowd that "The train is on it's way. The crowd started cheering and the local band started playing.A banner was pulled down from the roof of the train station, which read..'THE TOWN OF LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY WELCOMES OUR NEW DOCTOR'. Just then they heard a whistle blow and the train pulled in and started slowing down as it came closer.
Rebecca had seen the crowd and the wonderful banner, but Rebecca got worried. No one had told the town that their new Doctor was a woman. In this day and time it wasn't proper to do a man's job. Her Assistant Benjamin took her bag and grabbed the other one under the seat and made his way to the front of the train. Rebecca was right behind him.
Just as Benjamin stepped out of the door, he was greeted by a man who acted like he was the mayor of the town. The Mayor shook Benjamin's hand and welcomed him, with a speech the mayor had been practicing all night.
Ned Logan, wasn't watching what was being done for the welcome speech, he had seen the look on the young man's face when the mayor grabbed him. "That's not our Doctor," Ned mumbled under his breath. He watched as a young woman maybe 29 or so get off the train..She looked like she was one of those independent women, he had heard of up North, Also she had the look of being quite rich, like maybe being able to go to a Higher-Education School, and maybe....
'Oh No' Ned said, quite loud too. He walked over to the young woman who was now watching the Mayor recite his speech.."Doctor Knight I Presume?" Extending his hand..."Hello, My name is Ned Logan, It looks like they have mistaken that gentlemen for you. Rebecca couldn't believe her ears" How did yo....Oh never mind, It's Rebecca, no need to be so formal." She took Ned's hand and he kissed the top of it and offered his arm to escort her to town.
As they were leaving Rebecca remembered something. Looking back at Benjamin she looked at Ned and told him that she needed to tell her assistant that he needed to get the rest of the bags they were traveling with or the train would pull off with them. So Ned got Jeremy to run and give the Message to him.
