Mega Man returns home to tell Dr. Light that Dr. Wily and Bass escaped. Same reaction, too bad. You'll get him next time, Rock. So all goes quiet for awhile, until a large meteor crashes into the planet. Mega Man is out when it happens, though; he and Bass are fighting high above one of Megaland's cities. The battle is interrupted by Roll, who comes to tell Mega Man of the news. Mega Man agrees to check it out and hops in with Roll.(Hover car.) Bass tries to stop him, but one of his arm cannons is stuck in some steel cables. By the time he gets it loose, Mega Man and Roll are long gone and the black and gold robot vows revenge. Mega Man talks with Dr. Light some and teleports out to the area where Dr. Light told him it was. A strange island. There, Mega Man encounters robots, so he knows something is up. Shortly into his venture he sees Wily claiming something of the landed object. Guess he didn't plan this, but he's not the kind to waste such an opportunity. He and his eight new robot masters begin to secure lands, and Mega Man finds himself in another battle. But this time, there is some new competition...The dark energy. And what's this? Another robot has emerged...
