Feature: Xbox extreme night
My first special feature/editorial!! I’m so proud!!! I feel all warm and fuzzy inside! Oh wait, that’s my indigestion. I actually should make this very serious, so I’ll do the jokes, sarcasm, swearing, sex talk and other stuff that shouldn’t be here now, so that I won’t get distracted when writing the report itself. Here goes: Fuck. Man eating baby. Arse. George Bush is the smartest person walking this Earth. Tits. I’m eating a banana while writing this. Gay sex (hmm, maybe I should of put the banana and the gay sex next to each other, oh well). There. Now the serious stuff. On the 2nd of March this year, me and my mate went to something called “the Xbox Xtreme Night”. It’s basically some sort of Xbox launch party, coupled with the final of some Xbox contest. I'll save you the embarrassing stuff we've been trough, and the pain and cold we had to endure, and all the stupid people we’ve seen, the crappy DJs we had to hear all night, the high entrance price, etc. No, I’ll just concentrate on the games and the Xbox itself. The console: It's huge. Period. The controller: Crap. Probably the worst controller since...um...yeah...nevermind. It's too bulky, the ABXY buttons are sticky and well, crap overall. A nightmare when playing DoA3...or maybe I'm getting used to my Dreamcast arcade stick too much... Anyway, the analogue sticks are...great. Better than the DC, N64 and PS sticks at least. The triggers? I dunno...didn't have to use them much, so I can't really say. They give lots more resistance then the DC ones, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're better. The rest: huh? Right. Now I'll give a list of games I played, and a score, because some people only read stuff when it has a number behind it. Anyway these are just impression scores, and they’re just my opinion, I’m sure lots of people will disagree. I could care less, however. Here goes: Halo: great, amazing, etc. Definitely the best game on the Xbox now. Good in both single and multiplayer. Controls are brilliant. I wasn't that impressed by the graphics... until I played some outside levels. Worth buying an Xbox for? Errr, not for me. 9/10 Jet Set Radio Future: very good, fun, etc...but ultimately more or less the same as the Dreamcast version. And that's a good thing. 8/10 Dead or Alive 3: I love fighting games...but this...I personally don't find it worthy of the number three, the only thing that changed from DoA2/hardcore are the graphics, and some added characters. It's still fun and stuff, but nothing new, and to me it was rather disappointing. 7/10 Project Gotham racing: It’s MSR with GT3 quality graphics. Plays the same as MSR, feels the same as MSR, controls the same as MSR. Conclusion: buy MSR (if you like boring racing games) 7/10 Genma Onimusha: Basically the same as the PS2 version. Haven't played it a lot, it seemed rather cool...just as the PS2 version I guess. 7/10 Wreckless: "wow, look at those graphics!!!" Yeah, but it’s far from original, and overly flashy at times. And Crazy Taxi had more gameplay depth. Feel free to disagree...AFTER you played the game please. 6/10 Blood Wake: I actually spend a lot of time on this. It's quite fun, brilliant water graphics and physics too. I just played it in melee and multiplayer though, I heard actual story single player isn't that good. 7/10 Munch: wasn't there as far as I can remember. Buffy: Funny. Buffy lets out a one-liner from time to time while beating up some zombies and things like that, resulting of plenty ho-hums from my humble self. The game plays...alright. Nothing special. 6/10 Rallisport challenge: Very good, I enjoyed this one a lot. It's quite fun and fast, although a bit unrealistic sometimes. Still, great fun, definitely recommended if you're getting an Xbox. 9/10 Fusion Frenzy: Wasn't there. Thank god. The rest: All PS2 ports and boring sport games. Nothing else that's worth mentioning. That’s about it for now. So, bottom line, I wasn’t convinced by the ‘incredible power’ of the Xbox. Fanboys, feel free to write lots of hatemail to this address (it’s not mine anyway). Next time I’ll probably write something about mature gaming and shit like that. |
