It is not unusual for car owners in financial trouble to have their cars "stolen" so that they can collect the insurance money. Quite recently a strip pit in Alabama was discovered to be full of automobiles, which forensic divers will practice their skills on while retrieving the cars from the murky waters. This particular automobile, while not necessarily stolen or a part of any crime, is suspiciously abandoned far from civilization. Nearby, as Maxwell Loop Road reaches the banks of the Black Warrior, another auto lies partially submerged, having been pushed or driven over the steep sides of the river. Since even the most worthless car can be scrapped for a few dollars, why would anyone launch their car off into the river, or abandon it in the woods on an unused road? |
