In february 1981, Philip opened his first club night at Platets in Piccadily. The opening was a triumphy. Vivienne Westwood set up a stall in one of the fire exits, which was great credibility for the club and Philip, but she only sold two T-shirts all night. Jeremy Healy, Dick Breslaw and myself were hired as deejays. We were all clueless, but had great taste in music. The Cure, Pigbag, Bow Wow Wow, Lynx. I played lots of seventies stuff, T. Rex, Gary Glitter, LaBelle, reggae, like 'Uptown Top Ranking", chucking in 'Cabaret' and a Hare Krishna record I bought o n Oxford Street. It didn't matter that we kept jumping and scratching the records, or that everyone could see me. People were constantly asking for naff requests. 'Scuse me, can you play 'Flock of Seagulls' ?
