THAI GEM SCAM GROUP RELEASES FIRST DRAFT OF PROPOSALS
Aims to reduce incidence of scam, protect consumers
The Thai Gem Scam Group (www.oocities.org/thaigemscamgroup) today released its first draft of proposals to combat the notorious Bangkok Gem Scam. As part of its forward-looking mandate to ensure the safety of tourists in Thailand, the Group drafted a series of proposals that will ensure fewer tourists fall prey to the scam.
Recognizing the role of various parties, the proposals are broad-based and affect a diverse group of organizations. The proposals are intended to be quickly enacted and non-obtrusive for legitimate businesses.
The public is invited to comment on these proposals via e-mail to thaigemscamgroup@yahoo.com and the Group will issue revised proposals based on feedback from the public and other involved parties.

The Thai Gem Scam Group is a group of foreign tourists who have fallen victim to the notorious Bangkok Gem Scam. Its mission is to provide members with accurate information and warnings on suspected corrupt officials. The Group also maintains a website to help victims, mails out daily updates and holds daily meetings. The Group is drafting a series of proposals to combat the scam.
The Thai Gem Scam Group consists of over 100 members, representing 22 countries, who are frustrated by the inability of Thai authorities to stop the Bangkok Gem Scam. This scam is estimated to cost foreign tourists between $USD50 million and $USD100 million per year.
