HV SPARK GENERATOR TO LIGHT YOUR HOUSE FURNACE OR WATER BOILER

In industrial plants where ovens are used to heat up metal furnaces, water steamers, boilers, or just anything that must be warmed up, designers can pick one of two options:

-Electrical Heating

-Gas Burning

The first one is the easiest to implement, and implies less risks (like explosions), but is generally more expensive in terms of BTU (energy) demand versus unit cost compared to that of a LP Gas

Or Natural Gas.  Some burners even employ discarded oil (waste); however this is not an environmental friendly option.

To ignate (light) the burner, most designers agree, a HV spark is the most reliable way.   So the circuit I present is a simple, yet efficient, lighter.  Using a discarded Car Ignition Coil, a HV circuit is constructed.

A SCR –based oscillator pulses the Coil as its gate threshold voltage is reached by a charging RC network.  This is the schematics:

And the rest is to mount it on a plastic box, seal it and put an old  spark plug and ignition cable and voalla!!

No more matches.   Just press the button and a series of sparks form and then just turn the pilot on.

The cost: $16 USD.
