MELANIE SMITH
BIO
"I'm an unconventional ex '77' punk rocker, now settled into domesticity and a full time career but yearn to kick some ass again. After my teen years in Punk I drifted naturally into the 'New Romantic' scene which developed further my love of fashion and creativity. I became qualified in Fashion Design in the late 80's after designing clothes for 10 years or so for myself. Since then I've knocked out 20 years of social work experience and I am currently involved in writing my memoirs including many of my life experiences, punk and beyond. Throughout my life music and originality have always been my main themes, experimenting with hair and different styles of dress, from 1975 - 2008.
I have many eclectic interests and musical tastes. I hate to be tied down to one label - I am ME. I am always up to something, always something new and interesting around the corner. " - August 2008

Mel went to many infamous clubs from the late 70's to 80's such as 'Eric's' and 'The Swinging Apple' in Liverpool, then in Manchester, 'Pip's,' 'Legends', 'Rafters', 'Russell Club', 'Hacienda'- all of these clubs have since gone. In London, 'Camden Palace', 'Heaven', 'Copacabana', 'Taboo', Hippodrome, (meeting the infamous Leigh Bowery).
Mel has kept her memories intact with her vast photo collections, from meeting all of her favourite bands personally and taking photos these are greatly treasured items now. After 30 years of Punk music it still holds it's own today.Once the Music scenes started to evaporate for Mel in the 90's she took on other interests which were body building and Tattooing, resulting in winning a Tattoo competition and being featured in 'Skin Deep' Magazine and a Tattoo Video at Dunstable.

Mel is also a computer whizz kid, rather a Computer addict creating her online web site 'soulkiss' last year and the 'mudkiss' collaboration recently (June) with Lorraine Reeves, which entails interviews with people from all walks of life, people with fabulous stories. In addition to reviewing gigs from Manchester to London and including other guest reviewers and interviewers from Brighton to Barcelona. 'Mudkiss' have a whole stack of people waiting to be interviewed and it is hoped this will transfer at some point into a book format.
Since joining the social networking site 'MySpace' Mel said this has opened her eyes to new horizons, got her back in touch with old friends and faces from the distant past.

"Thanks to being on MySpace and also creating my own personal web site I have been contacted to assist with a few exciting opportunity's such as:

Writing a short diary extract and donating photos for a book about to be published called 'LIVERPOOL ERIC'S - all the best clubs are downstairs, everyone knows that' by Paul Whelan & Jaki Florek. Featured in '100 punks exhibition' by Johnny Deluxe and also at the 'The Batcave'club in July 2008.
Assisted Channel 4 with some photographic research for a short film called 'Love you more' based around 2 young punks in 1978 which was featured at Cannes film Festival, even got my name on the credits at the end of the film.
I gave an interview to Greg Fenton for a book he is writing about the Manchester club scene from 1976 - 80's.
A soon to be released book 'Tattoo Soup' is featuring one of my tattoos when it is published this year. "

Mel's book will be published on the
blurb.com website and is called 'Soulkiss' - Groovy Times - My search for Nostalgia'. it is hoped to be completed by the end of the year.
