Alex Band in The Calling

Singer Alex Band and guitarist Aaron Kamin met 8 years ago when Aaron was dating Alex’s sister. Then newfound, musica friendship made Aaron forced to choose between the sister or the rehearsing. Now that they climb in the charts and have crazy fans who try to rip them in pieces they think it’s worth it. And Alex’s sister isn’t pissed anymore.

It’s the third time that cute Alex Band is in Sweden and he sits relaxed in one of the hotel sofas. He likes that Sweden is clean and that the people are nice. Our super-swedish specialities does he though find disgusting.
-I would never eat that fishthingy in toothpastetube, that’s disgusting. Is it called Kaviar? And the liquorice is all salt!

How has rockstar life treated you so far?
-It’s weird coming to countries you’re never been to before and never thought you’d go to – and people already know who you are! There are places in South America and Asia were you’re really scared of your life because the fans there are insane!

In what way?
-Thousands of girls who chase the car we’re in, break the windows, break the bodyguards’ fingers, that has happened! And rip of the shirt from the body! They’re evil, they want anything they can get. Of course we love them, we love all our fans, they’re just a little…violent. In Europe the fans are much more polite….

Do you see any development on the new record compared to the first one?
-This one is much more positive! The texts on the first record did we write while we were growing up, so it’s much about teenage stuff. Grandparents die, the cat is running away, the girl is cheating with someone from high school…I guess that puberty is the craziest time in life.

How was your life when you were in puberty?
- It sucked! I was a little nerdy in high school, didn’t have many boy friends – bud I dated all the girls in school! The puberty is though, you gotta fit in, the parents are yelling at you and you start liking boys or girls. It’s weird.

How did you and Aaron meet, the guitar player in The Calling?
- We met through my sister, who we was dating. At last she got jealous because Aaron came ofer to rehearse with me instead of meeting her and put up an ultimatum: The music or her. In the same time we got signed, so…so it became an insane 6 months as Aaron had to sneak into the house to play with me, because she hated him and my parents didn’t want him to come over. We rehearsed in a guesthouse in the garden and made neighboors go crazy. They used to throw fruit at us and call the police. The police was there at least once a week.

You and Aaron have been playing together for 8 years, don’t you get sick of eachother?
-We have chosen not to argue about things, because if we’d ever start fighting about things we get angry about we’d probably fight for 3 years without pause…Aaron is a difficult person who drives everyone crazy, but we’re best friends anyway.

Would you recommend to treat a relationship with a girl the same way?
-No way! Girls want to talk aabout everything and it’s important to be as open as possible with each other. The longer you put things to talk about aside, the worse will it get when the storm comes.

Is it possible to have a girlfriend when you’re away as much as you are?
-Absolutely! We’re away for maybe two weeks, and then I’m home for one week, and I take herwith me on tour sometimes. There is alot of time on the phone – expensive bills….If I’d be a girlfriend of a guy in a successful rockband I’d probably get jealous of all the screaming fans, but she’s ok with that. On the other hand, she’s an actress and I have to watch her making sex and kiss scens n american tv-shows…..*
