These are some of my picks for Spider-Man books that make have been overlooked on the shelves. They're all fairly recent, so most of you out there probably already have them. But for those of you who don't, I strongly recommend them. Now, I'm sure theres some I've over looked, no doubt (the excellent Mendel Stromm story in Spider-Man Unlimited #17), but send in your picks for the best Spider-Man story of the past few years (cover images would help), and I'll try my best to get word around about it.

About this point in my Spidey collection I wasn't all too fond of Tom DeFalco writing (too many pesky green ninjas), but this is a story so moving, so interesting, that words can't be used to describe it. Fantastic art by Rafael Kayanan, that works prefectly with DeFalco's writing, make this a must read! Current Price: $2.50   An excellent issue that establishes the relationship between Peter and Ben Reilly, that later blossoms into almost that of brothers. It also defines the relationship the Black Cat has with Spider-Man and Mary Jane. Excellent art and great pacing also help this book. A hidden gem! Current Price: $1.50   Forget whatever John Byrne did, THIS is the definitive origin of Dr. Octopus. Complimented by great art by Joe Bennett (good inkers do wonders), and great writing. The twist with this is that it's told by Peter's, Carolyn Trainer's and Ben Urich's different perspectives. You can't help but feel sorry for Otto, and the Daily Bugle's obituary writer, after this. Current Price: $3.95   A Ben Reilly era book, that defines who Spidey is. With great art by Luke Ross (who went on to do wonders in Spectacular), and fantastic writing by the always underrated Todd Dezago, this book shows the kind of impact Spider-Man makes on the every-man. A truly uplifting piece of work. Current Price: $2.00   This book works on so many levels, in that it's basically, well... silly. With great writing by J.M. DeMatteis, and fun art by Luke Ross, this book shines on all levels. From the Grizzly's problem with swearing, to the White Rabbit's henchmen who are professional actors, this book doesn't take itself too seriously, and it works. Current Price: $2.00 |
