Third Eye Blind
9pm, August 20th, Starplex in Dallas, TX

I woke up at 9:30am this morning. My mother woke me up asking what I was going to do today. I am on my way to Dallas to see. . . Third Eye Blind. Jaime, Daniel's brother told me he had an extra pair of tickets so they picked me up at 2pm & we drove to Dallas. The drive was nasty & sticky. We had no A/C & drove with the windows down. Before we even passed FM1960, we were in some nasty traffic. It lasted forever. Texas weather sucks & it was hot. We stopped mid-way & had lunch. We began again. We arrived in Dallas at 6pm. We passed by the Dallas Observer office on Commerce street. I left a postcard in the dropbox for Dana Escobar who works there. Their building is really cool. We stopped at Jaime's place for a little bit then it was off to Dallas Starplex where Jaime went to the WILL CALL window to pick up tickets he had won from a Foley's Levi's Giveaway. They came with two LEVI'S VIP HOSPITALITY bands. He gave them up to Linda & me. By the time we got there, the Levi's party had already ended but at least we had all access to the bar that the bands might have been hanging out in. We did not see them. We only saw this little band called "Slickercit" or something. Vertical Horizon's SUCKED with their ONE song. Then came 3eb. They opened up with Anything. Click here for the setlist & autograph scans. The show was bad ass. Linda knew everything that was going to happen. There was a point in the show, during Narcolepsy, that he was to go into the crowd. He did. We had already walked to where we guessed he might go so we were right there. The rest of the show was great. At one point, Stephan Jenkins said, "Hey, there I don't think there would be a problem with you guys comeing up," wanting the crowd to gather in the aisles. But this security guard would not let us go up. After the show, we went to the "Icehouse," that was the bar. I had a drink & then we walked out of the VIP exit & waited by the tour buses to see if they were going to come out to sign stuff. All of a sudden, Orion, the bassist, walks out all cool & shit & said hello. Linda asked him, "Why no Smiths covers tonight?" He said, "Oh man, we haven't played any in a while," he contiued on with, "I love Morrissey." Then he asked Linda, "Okay, I am half Latino, why is it that majority of Latinos love Morrissey?" Linda says, "You need to ask this guy," pointing at me. I told him, "It is because he has A LOT of fans on the West Coast, mainly in LA & they are all into that stuff. A lot of them are greaser types & just dig it." He said, "Cool, cool." Then walked off after signing the set-list I had written down. Then Brad, the drummer came out. He was cool. I asked him for some drumsticks but he said he had thrown them all & a new box would be opened for the San Antonio show on Monday. Before he left, Stephan Jenkins came out. He was really tall. I guess I just thought he would be a short guy. He talked to the crowd for a while, mentioning Jack Kerovac & psychology & stuff. Linda was asking all the good questions. He seemed very impressed. He signed my set-list postcard too. The last question I asked him was why they thanked OASIS on their last album. He said that OASIS gave them their first big break, allowing them to open up for them. That was their first major show opener. Somebody asked if he was related to Bono from U2. He said that he gets that a lot but that they are just good friends. I said, "If it were a Trinity, Bono would be God & you would be his son, Jesus Christ." He laughed, loving the comment. Linda was held by him while he spoke to others. She almost died. He left & he shook my hand before he walked back toward the the bus area. The only one left to come out was Tony, the guitarist. As I looked into the fence, I saw him & motioned for himto come out. I reached into my pocket & pulled out a guitar pick & ask if we could trade. He said he did not have any but that he would love to sign it for me. He also signed my set-list, so it was complete. We left Dallas at 3:15am on a Greyhound bus arriving in Houston at 7:40am
