Elliott Smith Live on Thursday, October 19th, 2000 @ Numbers.
Let's start with what happened before the show. I waited for Tamara to get back to the office after work. We shot out of the office a little past 6:30pm & went to her apartment so she could change clothes. We went to 59 Diner to meet David & a friend of his after leaving her place. Tamara & I left & stopped at Walgreens for me to buy a disposable camera. I got a good deal on two. So with both cameras in my pocket, my Figure 8 CD in the back pocket, we parked the car & walked two blocks to Numbers.
Rotary Downs opened up for Elliott. The lead singer looked a lot like a young Morrissey. When I met him in the crowd, he said that he had not heard the Morrissey remark in like 12 years! It made him smile though. Elliot came out as I was talking to him. He said that he'd introduce the rest of the band later. Cool.
The Elliott Smith show was great. Elliott opened up with Son of Sam. The entire show was excellent. I made a new friend. Her name is Jessica. I got the guitarist from Rotary Downs to go up onstage & grab an Elliott Smith guitar pick off of the floor. I saw him drop it after "Angeles," his last song. He got it for me. Jessica then noticed that Elliott's keyboardist was on the main floor. He was really nice. His name was Shon. He signed my Figure 8 cd saying he did not even play on it. I told him that he was onthe tour & that was all that mattered. We began to talk & then he offered me one of his CDS. He got it for me & then Jessica, her friend Cassie, & Jeff from Deep Ella walked out. We walked out & sawthat a crowd had formed around the tour bus. I saw David Salinas & stayed, they left, but I promised Jessica an autograph if I him. I did. I got the guitarist & Elliott to sign the CD, & he signed the poster I took off the wall for Jessica.
