The night we met Sterling Marlin in person.......
November 14, 2002 was a night that none of our family will soon forget.  We are AVID Sterling Marlin fans.  We had seen a commercial on tv, earlier in the week, that he was going to be at the Tampa Convention Center, signing autographs.   Wow, we thought....we can actually meet our favorite driver in person!  Then, reality hit, and we realized that we had an appointment set for that date, and we didn't think we would have to time afterward to drive to Tampa and get there while the autographing session was still going on.  We firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, and sure enough.......the appointment was cancelled by the other man and we would get to go, after all!  Traffic was "horrible", at best, and it seemed like it took forever to get there.  We arrived and started searching for a parking place.  It seemed like every level was full, so Charlie drove to the underground garage.  Anita spotted an open space, 2 cars in!  We got there, finally got the tickets to get in and the ticket taker took forever to tear the stupid things.  Apparently Anita's disgust with him was visible, because he told us exactly where Sterling was....it must have been apparent that was the "only" reason we were there, since we had on our #40 shirts and had camera in hand..lol!  We got to where he was and got into the line that went CLEAR around that part of the building. We started taking notice of the things that people had brought to have signed.....car hoods, tires, stand-ups....man, if we would have known it was going to be "this" organized, we would have brought some of OUR big stuff!
The way the autograph table was set up, you could go upstairs and look down, so Anita took FULL advantage of his and took her camera up there and starting taking pictures.
Then Anita saw a cop standing down, on the level where Sterling's signing table was.  After waving her arms in the air for what seemed like forever, she finally got the cop's attention and pointed to her camera and then down to the level where Sterling was.  The cop motioned her to come on down.....so she did! ;-)
Then, just as fast as her priviledges to take pictures were granted....they were taken away and the cop made Anita go back and get in line.  But these are some pretty good pictures, huh?
The line moved pretty fast and we soon found ourselves almost face to face with Sterling Marlin!
