The Tempest is Shakespeare’s tale of one man’s journey from vengeance to forgiveness in a ‘new world’ filled with monsters, magic, sinister plots, and fantasy.

The magical Prospero and his daughter, Miranda, have been banished to a foreign world by his scheming brother Antonio. When King Alonso’s ship journeys nearby, Prospero conjures a tempest and the resulting shipwreck brings to the world the  conspirators responsible for his exile. Using his magical powers, Prospero manipulates events so that his enemies have to face the wrongdoings of their past, with many humorous incidents along the way.

Fantasy and science fiction come face to face with Shakespeare’s text in Theatre Nepean’s vibrant interpretation of this classic play. Mystical, musical and often comic,
The Tempest is a play that has delighted audiences for over 400 years and is considered to be Shakespeare’s last complete work.

Howard Barker is a poet and visual artist as well as a writer and director for the theatre. His theatrical language is compelling in its beauty, force and dark comedy, making him one of the most visceral and evocative playwrights in contemporary British theatre.

The Possibilities
is a series of ten short plays spanning a range of cultures, times and legends. Barker's characters confront an extraordinary range of human conflict, from the devastation of war to the responsibilities of freedom. They struggle to survive in a world where culture, knowledge, sexuality and ultimately life itself is viewed as a commodity with a price.

A family of rug-weavers discover that human blood yields a dye of unparalleled richness; an Old Testament heroine recognises the unforseen consequences of a patriotic act; a wife is tricked into betraying her husband to terrorists; a torturer reveals the seductive art of his occupation, while a prostitute explains why hers is necessary to maintain social order.

Barker's plays are a celebration of the full gamut of humanity in the face of suffering and hardship.

Also known as The Private Life of the Master Race, this brilliant play shows how "ordinary" life under the Nazis was subtly permeated by suspicion and anxiety. Through humour, horror and an array of finely observed characters, Brecht captures the seductive power of the government where amid secrets and lies, ordinary people attempt to grapple with fear, pressure and confusion about what is right.

A Little Like Drowning focuses on the character Leonora as she recalls in short, beautifully observed scenes, the peaks adn troughs of her life. She ponders her marriage, children, husband's desertion of her and her final triumph over his mistress. Piercingly authentic and distressingly all-pervasive in its emotional onslaught, A Little Like Drowning is written by Anthony Minghella, whose other credits include "The English Patient", "Truly, Madly, Deeply", "Whale Music" and "The Talented Mr Ripley".
