Rivington, in the West Pennine moorlands of North-West England, is typical of the many picturesque spots that attract thousands of visitors to these areas every year. A lot of Rivington's beauty is in its shaping by the hand of man; From the reservoir which supplies the city of Liverpool with water, to the buildings and landscapings of Lord Leverhulme, a rather eccentric but generous person, who was active in many different causes, building a whole village for his workers at "Port Sunlight", named aftet the Sunlight Soap Factory belonging to Lever. One of the less well known features of "Lever Park", as the area of land bought and developed by Lord Lever was named, is its scale model of Liverpool Castle, built by Lord Leverhulme due to his historic interests, and his belief that on the banks of Rivington Reservoir was a site almost identical to the original site of the castle in Liverpool. Rivington also boasts 2 ancient barns, and many other interesting walks around the moors and Leverhulmes estate.
