The wilderness trip to Harriman state park was wonderful! It brought the kids from the Bronx Guild including myself, something new to experience outside of the city. It builds a lot of community within the students. In my crew everyone helped each other out. If you were to look at us you’d think we were a family. That was just great! One of the scariest moments was when we had to do something called a solo. That meant that for an hour or so you were by yourself left only with a journal to write in. This trip was a liberating experience that changed my life forever. It showed me that regardless to what you contribute to a group what you do makes a difference. Honestly in the end all the complaining, pain, and suffering was well worth it. You only get to have a first experience once and this was one of them. - Mary Ann (9th Grade Student at the Bronx Guild) |
