Europe is aflame. Nazi jack boots have stamped their way across the continent from the heart of the Soviet Union to the Atlantic Shores of France. June 1944 - D-Day +1… A Major wearing a dirt and blood stained uniform approached me as I stepped from the landing craft. “Welcome to France Lieutenant. Watch your step.” I looked down and found myself standing in a pool of blood that had drained from a mangled German soldier. As we walked on, the Major continued his welcome speech. The sound of artillery and machine guns, fighting to drown him out. “Most of the unit you were supposed to take command of is now spread out all over the beach.” The Major gestured to several bodies sprawled out on the bloody sands of the beach.
