The Classical Pianist | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The enchantment of music is manifested in its capacity to evoke and express human emotion through the configuration of sound. Keyboard instruments, which allowed for an increased ability to simultaneously produce different pitches of sound, are believed to have originated in the 1300s. The primal piano appeared during this evolution in the early 1700s. The development of piano literature was assisted by the imagination of the composer, and the continued innovation of the instrument. Compositions that have continued to endure the test of time did so through an aesthetic appeal and allure that for some is entertainment, for others a form of devotion, or even an impetus for inspiration. The invention of devices that preserved sound originated in the late 1800s. For more than a century now it has been possible to listen to pianistic interpretations by those who left some documentation of their recorded legacy. It was my desire for additional interpretations that provided the incentive for the acquisition of 78 RPM recordings, long after they ceased to be manufactured. It became apparent that it was only economically possible through a continual turnover of discs. This dilemma provided the impetus for the inception of The Classical Pianist (TCP) in 1980, which later included LPs and the exchange of live performances. There are many others, as myself, for whom the designation "pianophile" can be ascribed. We derive a degree of fulfillment in the literature for the piano and the multitude of its interpretations past and present, and continually seek that which is definitive. It is hoped that TCP will be able to provide some degree of interest and satisfaction for fellow pianophiles, and perhaps even contribute to that which nurtures new ones. This site will hopefully be a continuation of, and the internet beginning for, TCP. |
