When Angelle Brooks is not working on the action series"V.I.P." you might find her in prison on Southern California'sTerminal Island. The former social worker spends her spare time acting in adrama ministry for her church, putting on plays at penitentiaries and juveniledetention centers.
In V.I.P., Brooks plays Val's down-to-earth best friend,Maxine. "I am the oracle, or the sage of the show," Brooks says "Every heroine needs the oracle to give her advice. With Vallerie joining the V.I.P. team and entering their glamourous and dangerous world, Maxine keeps hergrounded. Vallerie blows off steam, and Maxine gives her good advice. She'svery colorful and feisty."
Born and raised in Los Angeles, the youngest of fourchildren, Brooks had no family connection with show business. Though she didplay an angel in a church play when she was five, it was not until her churchdeveloped its drama ministry that Brooks found her vocation.
"I was going to be a doctor or a social worker and justact in my spare time," she says. "But traveling around topenitentiaries, it just excited me more than anything else, and inspired me. I saw the effect that my God-given talent could have on people."
Following acting, singing and dancing lessons, Brooksappeared in many stage plays, television series and movies. She had recurringroles in CBS' "The Young And The Restless" and UPN's "Malcolm & Eddie." Additionally, she appeared on ABC's "NYPD Blue" and "Hangin' With Mr.Cooper," NBC's "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air" and "Built ToLast," and a memorable role as Martin Lawrence's ex-girlfriend on FOX's "Martin."; Her feature film experience includes roles in “Capuccino”, "Rituals", "The Book Of Love",“Blue HillAvenue” and "Fraternity Boys" directed by Robert Townsend.
