THE HARA-KEE-REES – Explode!

Sounds Of Subterrania! Records (SoS 040) 2003

Wow! This 12-inch platter will surely cause an explosion to your speakers, no doubt! The Hara-Kee-Rees was the most pleasant surprise for my ears this summer! The debut LP by these lads is full of 12 explosive beat and garage punk tunes that will not let you get bored for a second. The compositions are all fab, well performed and produced. “Certain Words” is on top of my faves in here. Also “Let Me Feel”, “Helping Hand”, Wonder” and “Explode!!!” will stick into your mind for days once you listen to them! I hope that there will be some more from this Great Band! THE HUNCHMEN – A Bunch Of Hunches

Psych-Out Records (PO33 013) 2003

This is real garage punk and beat music by good talented musicians that at least know how to play their instruments, so no junk in here. Even though these Italians seem to be talented they spend their obvious talent in covering mostly 60s songs once again. That’s not bad generally but I believe that their debut LP would be more interesting if they’d played more of their own compositions. Also I don’t mean that the covers are bad but exactly the opposite: Very well performed. My fave cover is “Ricordami” which is sung in English and titled “Remember”! That’s great because I always wanted to know what’s that song all about. “Remember” is one of my fave ones from this album along with “Game” and “Just A Shake”. You will also have the opportunity to listen to songs like “Like No Other Man”, E.S.P”, “Open Up Your Door”, “Tired Of Waiting” and “I Believe In You” and overall 14 songs. The sleeve is made by hard cardboard which will cause you some trouble when trying to put the record inside it…Email the Hunchmen at hunchmen@yahoo.it

THE FORTY-FIVES – Fight Dirty

Yep Roc Records (LP-YEP-2039) 2002

Here is a band that will fit perfectly next to your Greenhrones and Monomen records! Loud and fast, a great combination of the 60’s garage punk and the American 70’s punk with upfront wild guitars and loads of organ grooves! I believe that this is the Forty-Fives debut album and it’s totally a surprise with great garage punk songs like “Out Of My Mind”, “The Devil Beats His Wife”, “Hanging By Thread” and the amazing “Never Gonna Leave Here”. THE HEKAWIS – S/T CD

Private Label 2003

That’s a new CD by the Hekawis which includes some alternate takes from songs that appeared in their great “Born Yesterday” LP last year (see review in thee cave), some songs from the LP recordings that didn’t make it to the album (I wonder why they didn’t…?) and some new stuff. The highlights in this new CD are with no doubt “In The Band”, “Born Yesterday” and “I’m Gone”. If you want to listen to simple, genuine and real garage punk with fuzz, farfisa and screams contact the Hekawis at thehekawis@hotmail.com or visit http://www.thehekawis.com . NOW! It’s What’s Happening!
