THE INDIKATION – Don’t Send Us No Flowers, 7” EP

Larsen Records (LZ-076) 2003

Here is the 3rd 45 by these 60’s crazed youngsters after their debut on the same label and one on Screaming Apple. The sound and style is similar to these previous 45s and the conclusion is: Beat Music at its best! This time the UK beat inspiration is more obvious though. ‘Fashion Conscious’ & ‘Don’t Send Me No Flowers’ are the two covers in here and ‘ Three Little Words’ & ‘Swedish Girl’ are the originals. ‘Three Little Words’ stands above all the four songs and it seems to be an outtake from the Indikation latest 45 on Screaming Apple. The Indikation are one of the best garage/beat…whatever you call them bands of Today! I really can’t wait for their forthcoming album on Teen Sound.

THE THANES – No No No No / What More Can I Do, 7” single

Larsen Records (LZ-073) 2003

If you already have listened to the latest album by The Thanes, I don’t think that you will need any introduction to this new 45. But If you don’t have listened to the Thanes album yet, you should be ashamed first of all and secondly you should get it at once…hohoho… Anyway, this new 45 includes two cover versions of the songs mentioned above with the high quality standards performance by Lenny Helsing and his partners. No need to say more but that’s another beat gem by today’s beat kings!

THE MICRAGIRLS – Mind Twistin’ Weekend, 7” EP

Weera Records (WEERA-001) 2003

The Micragirls are four girls from Finland that decided to get a guitar, a bass, an organ (Eko Tiger Junior!) and a drum kit and start a garage band! They picked their name from the Nissan Micra car that one of them own and decided to rock the world! This debut platter by the Micragirls features four tunes, two garage punkers and two creepy instros: ‘Saturday’, ‘Whatta Way To Die’ (the well known 60’s song by The Pleasure Seekers), ‘Neki’ & ‘Date At The Graveyard’. Get that 45 and you will enjoy wild girly screams, haunted organ sounds and some really nice artwork on the sleeve.

THE GREENHORNES – Lovin’ In The Sun / Your Body, Not Your Soul, 7” single

Sweet Nothing Records (7SN021) 2003

I haven’t listened yet to any record that has been recorded in the Toe Rag studios in London and that’s been produced by Liam Watson and it isn’t of high quality. That surely would happen with The Greenhornes too. These Americans recorded that 7” single in Toe Rag and they should feel very lucky and proud about it. The result is a great single featuring ‘Lovin’ in The Sun’ on the first side which is a mid tempo garage punker in the Greenhornes style and on the flip a cover version of the mean and wild screamer ‘Your Body, Not your Soul’. That’s highly recommended as both songs are great and the production even greater.

THE BRISTOLS – I Got A Thing About You / I’ll Be Gone Again, 7” single

Damaged Goods Records (Damgood 215) 2003

Yet another fine Toe Rag production though this time made for a band coming from inside the Toe Rag gang. ‘I Got A Thing About You’ is a mid tempo beat pop tune with sweet girly vocals while the flip side is a fast shakin and catchy Liverpool beat tune “for your next party” (but only if you invite friends with the same taste in music…hehehehe…).

DEE RANGERS featuring DON CRAINE – Dee-Sected, 7” EP

Munster Records (7180) 2003

Well, it seems that the business at Toe Rag Studios is going very well as that’s another record that has been recorded in there! Forget what you knew about Dee Rangers, as this 45 has nothing to do with garage. This is a pure R’n’B record and you should have already guessed that one by reading the name of Don Craine and also the title of the EP. Don Craine of Downliners Sect joined the band for these recordings and all four of ‘Dee-Sected’ have been performed and recorded in the fine Downliners Sect veins. R’n’B lines, harps and tambourines! So, Come On!
