THE NO-GOODS – I Wanna Change/Cryin’ For Love, 7” single

High Scholl Refuse Records, HSR 017, 2003, Holland

This is the 2nd vinyl single by the new Nederbeat sensation from the home of The Outsiders, Q65 and Motions: The No-Goods! The (monophonic) single consists of two strong beat tunes, both original compositions of the bands leader Mark Ten Hoor (vocals/guitar). The No-Goods have found a drummer at last (Dennis) and along with Peter (bass) are the most promising nowadays band that comes from the Netherlands. I can’t wait for a long player!

THE FUZZTONES – Hallucination Generation/Get Naked, 7” single

Dark Zone Records, DZ-01, 2002, Mexico

Okay, these two tunes are included in the ‘Salt For Zombies’ CD, but also these two fuzz-gems are alternate takes and not the exactly same songs of the album. Anyways, there is a very good and important reason to get that 45, especially if you collect the Fuzztones stuff or generally garage punk records: It’s vinyl! Unfortunately, until this time I am writing these words, no news about a vinyl release for the ‘Salt For Zombies’ have reached my ears… So, here’s a chance to get these tunes on old mighty vinyl! It’s still alive!

CONNECTION 99 – You Don’t Leave Me Anymore, 7” EP

Killer Release Records/Elektrozmog Records, EZ KR 004-009, 2003, Germany

That’s a fab new German band by Tina (guitar/vocals), Bar (bass/vocals), Hennes (drums), Rudi (vocals/guitar/harmonica). The EP consists of 3 fine garage punkers with vocals ala Mans Mannson from Rudi Muller that also is playing with another cool German band, the Beat By Five. I was quite offish to get that 45 cause of their unusual - for a typical garage punk band - name, but I made the right choice and spent some more Euros for the Connection 99 stuff. The beat goes on…

THEE SHAMS – Out Of My mind/Plastic Factory, 7” single

Spoonful Records, 45-SR-002, 2004, USA

Thee Shams are form the U.S. and I believe that they also got at least one more 45 out. Their sound is raw garage punk and RnB (read: no trash in here at all) very similar to the sounds of The Greenhornes. It’s not that I don’t have anything else to write about this 45 but I always like to write the names of the band members although I hardly remember them a minute after…Here they are: Zachary Gabbard - guitar/vocals, Keith Fox – drums, Andrew Gabbard – guitar/vocals, Chad Hardwick – bass, Max Bender – harp on B-side. Yup, buy any single that has on its any of the sides a song titled ‘Out Of My Mind’!
