THE
GRAVES - I Wanna Do It Again/I’ve Been Thinkin
Dig Dipper Records (BDR 015) 2002
Here is a new band from Norway
with their debut 45 on Big Dipper Records, a label that released the debut LP
by The Launderettes too. The Graves
are a fresh garage punk band and this 45 shows that these four guys and one
girl know how to do it. The first side begins with a guitar riff that reminds
me of “Bad Little Woman” and whole bunch of garage songs (that doesn’t mean
that isn’t this nice, ok?). The whole song is based on that riff and the
result is a real success! “I’ve Been Thinkin” is a cover of Paul Bearer &
The Hearsemen tune and is a great punker with swirling farfisa in front. The
songs of that 45 may already have been released by Big Dipper on CD format
too, so if you don’t have a turntable at home (I bet you do!) you can also
enjoy the Graves tunes on CD. If you dig the 80s Scandinavian garage punk
scene, don’t miss this one!

THE
INDIKATION – Yes I Do/Ain’t That Love
Screaming Apple (SCAP 068) 2002
DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!!!
This is what we were waiting for! A truly
inspired band, with organ fueled hip shaking tunes and unstoppable beat! This
platter is one of the best I have listened to for long. The guy who plays the
organ, he knows how to treat it right, for sure! Both songs are splendid
Zombies/UK beat and with authentic garage feeling too! This one is the 2nd
45 that came out by the Indikation and I can’t wait for their forthcoming
album.

THE DEFECTORS Vs. BABY WOODROSE – C’mon Shake!!!/Don’t Look Back
Ewing Records (OIL 002) 2002
You may already have listened to the Defectors stuff, so you should be
prepared about this brand new song by them: That’s one of their best tunes
ever! The title says it all! “C’mon Shake” is a garage stomper with a great
guitar riff, lotsa farfisa and the snottiest vocals since the Stomachmouths.
The fans of the long gone Lust-O-Rama will be pleased, no doubt about that!
Also on side B appears another band from Denmark: Baby Woodrose. They cover “Don’t Look
Back”, a song originally performed and written by the Lollipop Shoppe. The
fact is that their cover is quite close to the original sound and feeling or
maybe more to the Dead Moon’s later feeling, mainly because the voice of the
singer reminds me a lot of Fred Cole. Anyway this is an “authentic” version,
not a fake one indeed!
