MONTHLY AWARDS February 2009 |
PLAYER OF THE MONTH SAMIR NASRI READING Samir Nasri has been named player of the month for February, after a wonderful purple patch of form that has seen him score seven goals for D2 outfit Reading. The Royals themselves are unbeaten in four and owe much to their French starlet. His goals including a recent hat-trick against Southampton, have earned him a starting place for Team GI. His other goals came against Manchester City, Aston Villa and Preston North End. |
MANAGER OF THE MONTH JOSE MOURINHO NEWCASTLE UNITED Despite the disappointment of losing in the GI Cup to rivals West Ham United, Newcastle have been in fantastic form in the league. The Magpies won all their matches in February and now find themselves top of the table with just a couple of games left. Mourinho has guided his side to vital victories over Fulham, Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool and Watford. During that period they scored 11 goals, conceding 7, picking up maximum points. |
PERFORMANCE OF THE MONTH TOTTENHAM TOTTENHAM 5-3 PRESTON Tottenham win the award for best performance in February, following an eight goal thriller between them and Preston North End at White Hart Lane. Thierry Henry was the star of the show for the home outfit, netting a hat-trick, including a penalty. Dutch international Wesley Sneijder was on target twice while The Lilywhites responded with a brace from Djibril Cisse and a consolation strike from James Beattie. |
