1. HOLDING THE HURLEY: the player's stronger hand grips the top of the hurley, the weaker hand, which is closer to the base of the stick, gives extra control |

3. Thumbs Up! BATTING: Another of the skills of hurling. This is a great defensive stroke requiring athleticism, judgement and bravery in equal amounts |

STRIKING FROM THE HAND: After rising the sliothar--and possibly soloing with it--a player may strike the ball from the hand on either his/her left or right-hand-side and effect a 100 metre clearance, play a delicately judged pass or score a goal (great) or a point (very good!). A goal is worth 3 points. |
