most heptinstalls originate from

quite a bit. it probably originated from the village
of heptonstall near hebdon bridge.the 1881 census of

the name is derived from old danish
and roughly means roses in the valley of horses
hep. is old danish for rose hip. ton is place
or valley and stall is a horses house or something like that.my own family came from castleford
pontefract

Co. Wicklow,
The principal names of
English origin in Co. Wicklow in 1851 are Smith (101
households), Clarke (46) - though neither is necessarily English - Wilson (44),
Hall (34),
There are a number of
surnames which are distinctly associated with the Wicklow
area, however. Hanbidge, Hempenstall/Hepenstall, Stringer and Tutty. The Quaker families of Penrose and Nuzum/Newsom, though never populous, were present in the SE
of the county from the 17th century.
