Dieppe: Casualties of War

This site compares amphibious operations of World War 2 based on four assertions made with regard to the Dieppe raid of August 1942.

  1. Bombers would have made a difference.
  2. A Battleship would have made a difference.
  3. Flank landings would have made a difference.
  4. Experienced troops would have made a difference.
  5. I believe that all of these assertions can be proved false. While it may have been possible to increase the number of German casualties, short of cancelling the raid there was no other way to reduce the casualties of the invader.
