I have traced my Great Grandfather to Lambourn, Berkshire, England were he was born as Ambrose Honey in 1844. His known family was:
Father: John Honey - Baptised 22 Sept 1803 - Buried 24 Mar. 1892
Mother: Eliza Mace - Born ca 1814 - Buried 16 Sept. 1888 (hard to read - could be 10 Sept. 1888)
Records show John Honey of Lambourn, Berkshire, England married Eliza Mace of Wanborough, Wiltshire on 27 Dec. 1830.
John Honey
and Eliza Mace Honey are both buried in Lambourn. The gravestone is in the St. Michael's churchyard ...It is in the shape of a
cross and reads... "In memory of John Honey died 19 march 1892 aged 83
years. For 50 years the faithful servant of Henry Hippisley Esq. of Lambourn
Place and also of Eliza his wife Died September ?? 1888 ,aged 74 years."
The Children:
- Alfred MACE (HONEY) - Born about 1830 to Eliza Mace.
Found listed as Alfred Honey in the 1861 Lambourn Berkshire census which shows:
Alfred Honey, Head, Married, Age 30, Shouises(?) Agricultural, Bn Wiltshire Wanborough
Elizabeth Honey, Wife, Married, Age 26, Bn Wiltshire All Cannings
Free BMD shows a possible marriage for this couple but the marriage appears to have occurred 7 years after the 1861 census so this could be an incorrect record.
Marriages April - June 1868
Honey Alfred Reading 2c 635
Hunt Eliza Reading 2c 635
Rogers Elizabeth Jane Reading 2c 635
Thus Alfred's wife could be a Hunt or Rogers if this is the correct couple.
I have not yet found them in the 1871 census.
The 1881 Purton, Wiltshire census shows:
Alfred HONEY Head M Male 50 Wanboro, Wiltshire, England
Elizabeth HONEY Wife M Female 46 All Cannings, Wiltshire, England
Agnes HONEY Daur U Female 10 Drayton, Berkshire, England Scholar
Free BMD indicates Alfred apparently died between October and December 1888 in In Wiltshire (Cricklade Dist) Probably in Purton.
Elizabeth Honey is found in the 1891 Purton, Wiltshire census living as a widow, age 57. listed as a lodge keeper with two lodgers. I have not found Agnes in the 1891 census.
It is not clear what happened to Alfred's widow Elizabeth but it appears their daughter Agnes is found in the 1901 census:
Agnes Honey 30 Berkshire West Drayton Bristol Bristol Cook Domestic
- Martha HONEY - Baptised 25 Feb 1832 - Buried 1 Mar. 1832
- Martha HONEY - Apparently given the same name as the first child who died late February 1832. Martha was Baptised 7 Apr 1833 in Lambourn.
Martha married George Tull (born about 1812) between January and March 1854 in Hungerford District per free BMD.
Census records indicate that Martha and George Tull worked for the Postal Service in East and West Shefford, Berkshire.
1871 West Shefford census record of the "Post Office":
George Tull, Head, age 55, Carrier, born West Shefford
Martha (Honey) Tull, age 38, Charwoman, Born Lambourn
Ada M. Tull, age 6, scholar, born West Shefford

A second "family" is listed as living at the post office:
Phebe T. Ellis, Head, Unmarried, age 58, House Keeper, born Burough, London
Alice Tull, age 11, Scholar, born West Shefford
The 1881 census is found online with the family indexed as "Full":

BMD indicates George Tull died between January and March 1904 at age 92 in the Hungerford District, presumably in West Shefford. BMD also indicates Martha Honey Tull died between JAnuary and MArch 1909 at age 75 in the Hungerford District, presumably in West Shefford.
The known children of George and Martha Tull were:
Agnes Tull. Born between July and August 1854. Gone from the household by the time of the 1871 census

Martha (Madge) Tull. Born between April and June 1875. Working as a School teacher in 1901. MAdge was exchanging letters with the Morgan family in the USA in the 1890s.
- Sarah HONEY Baptised 1 Feb 1835 in Lambourn. Sarah apparently married Henry Ayers on September 7, 1861 at St Mary, Reading, Berkshire.
The 1871 Reading, Berkshire census shows the following family at 3 Westhill:

Sarah Ayres, age 55, born Lambourn
Rose E. Ayres, age 20, born Reading

Sarah is apparently listed in the 1901 Reading census as a widow but I need to review that record further.
- Henry HONEY Baptised 7 Aug 1836 in Lambourn and buried there 6 Apr. 1854
- Eli HONEY Baptised 9 Mar 1838 in Lambourn. He parently married ca 1869 to Francis (last name unknown> BMD indicates Eli died Bet. July - September 1880 in the Hungerford District

Francis, Daughter Frances M and Mary A. G. Honey are found in the 1891 census in Milton.
- James HONEY Baptised 14 Mar 1841 in Lambourn and buried there 29 Mar. 1893. He apparently worked in the horse race industry as a groom.
- Ambrose HONEY (My Great Grandfather) Baptised 14 Apr 1844 in Lambourn. Moved to the USA about 1861 and took the name Columbus A.H. Morgan. Died in Campbell County, Kentucky, USA on May 21, 1912.
- David HONEY Baptised 26 Jan 1846 in Lambourn. Died before October 1847 or Baptised twice?
- David HONEY Baptised 3 Oct 1847 in Lambourn
The second baptism for David Honey creates a mystery. There is no record of the first David being buried in 1846 or 1847. The 1851 census and 8 Oct. 1851 burial record both show David as age 5 which implies he was born in 1846. This could be the same chld but I don't know why he would be baptised twice.
- Septimus Andrew HONEY - Baptised 9 Jul 1848 in Lambourn - Buried 18 Oct, 1851 in Lambourn
- Catherine Eleanor HONEY (AKA Ellen) Baptised 19 Jan 1851 in Lambourn. She Married John Walker and they lived in Borneo. Decendents are in Canada.

- Caroline Mary Honey - Caroline M. Honey was born ca 1858 in Lambourn. Shown as Mary, age 3 in 1861 census. Shown as Caroline M. in 1881 census.
IGI shows:CAROLINE MARY HONEY (listed as daughter of John Honey) married SAMUEL KNIGHT GREENYER (listed as age 23) on 14 APR 1883 at Saint Giles, Reading, Berkshire, England.
Samuel is apparently son of Reuben Greenyer and Ann Knight of Sussex.
Free BMD indicates that a Caroline Greenyer died at age 34 between January and March 1892 in East Preston, Susssex.
The known children:
Henry R. Greenyer born about 1886.
Edith M. Greenyer born about 1888.
I have not yet found the ancestry of Eliza Mace although Thomas Mace was a witness to her marriage. Eliza Mace apparently gave birth to an Alfred Mace (Honey?) shortly before her marriage.
The known Family of my G-Great Grandfather John Honey is shown below:
Father: John Honey - Baptised 6 May 1778 - Lambourn - Buried 6 Apr. 1860 at age 82.
Mother: Martha Steptoe - Born ca 1777? - Buried 10 Jan 1853 at age 76 (hard to read - could say age 96)
Records show John Honey married Martha Steptoe 22 Sep 1803 in Lambourn.
The Children:
- Abia (possibly short for Tabitha) Honey - Baptised 13 Nov 1803 - Lambourn - Married Charles Bowsher and had several children before and after the marriage.

Abia BOWSHER Head O Female 80 Lambourn, Berkshire, England Formerly Nurse
Thomas BOWSHER Son U Male 51 Lambourn, Berkshire, England Army Pensioner 66th Regt

I have not yet found the ancestry of Martha Steptoe.
The following is my theory on the family of my GG-Great Grandfather John Honey:
Father: Robert Honey (Dates unknown)
Sarah Perriss - (Dates unknown)
Records show Robert Honey married Sarah Perriss 28 Apr 1766 in Lambourn.
The Children:
- John Honey (My GG-Great Grandfather) - Baptised 6 May 1778 - Lambourn
(Only child found to date)
I have not yet found the ancestry of Sarah Perriss. Some transcriptions show the name as Pariss but I believe it is Perriss based on the microfilm and finding a few other records showing the Perriss name.
I suspect that Robert Honey is the baby baptised 15 Jun 1740 in Lambourn and shown as son of John Honey and Jane (Unknown). There is also a Robert christened 16 Jan 1727 in Lambourn to Robert Hunny to Elizabeth Winterborne. I have not verified which Robert is my GGG- Grandfather.
I have some notes on earlier generations but have not proven their conection to my ancestors. Please E-mail me if you have questions, comments, corrections or additional information on the Honey and related families.
