Gil and Jean have spent three years completely renovating a home built in the late 1930s. Situated on a one-acre parcel, Hummingbird Haven has three comfortable bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large common area, a beautiful sun porch, a reading nook and a two-tiered deck. All rooms have telephones, televisions and clock radios. Bathrooms are private or shared depending upon the wishes of the guests.

St. Walburg is the perfect location for numerous recreational, cultural, and touring activities located one hour from Lloydminster, 1½ hours from North Battleford, and approximately 3 hours from Edmonton or Saskatoon. Jean and Gil believe in quality accommodations, great Saskatchewan hospitality and reasonable rates. When you add that up plus an incredible breakfast in the morning, the Hummingbird Haven is your perfect getaway. If you are looking for great value and hosts committed to your satisfaction, visit the Hummingbird Haven in St. Walburg.

Main Floor Bathroom

Main Floor Bathroom – How does a house built in the 1930s have a modern three piece bathroom including a corner shower unit and fir flooring? Because Jean and Gil worked tirelessly modernizing the entire home, stripping the wide baseboards, doors, and trim, their guests enjoy their labors. Thick plush towels help you dry off - this is living! Forget your toothbrush? Jean and Gil are able to provide some of those extras for you if you were packing in a hurry. This bathroom is just a few steps away from Bedroom 1.
The Sun Porch – Looking to unwind from your responsibilities at home? Why not bring a book to the Hummingbird Haven and enjoy a beautiful reading and relaxing area! Our guests love this room and many a cup of coffee has been sipped while basking in the sun. Don’t miss this room!

The Kitchen

The Kitchen - Entering the house from the back deck, you will find a brand new maple kitchen with colors specially chosen to complement the restored wooden floors and trim. Modern touches include beautiful blue beveled counter tops, glass cupboard fronts and new white appliances including a dishwasher and microwave. This workspace is fully equipped for Jean’s meal service or for your own handiwork. Asmall nook with a round maple table and two chairs provides kitchen seating. A collection of antique items decorates cupboards and counters. You’ll like the mixture of modern convenience with old country charm. Please sign the Guest Book during your visit to the Hummer”.
Dining Room/Parlour - A beautiful maple dining table, chairs and China cabinet, dominate the area just off the kitchen. The space is perfect for intimate dinners for two or for entertaining with family and friends. On the other side of the room is a matching antique sofa and Queen Anne chair with ottoman redone in luxurious dark blue tapestry. Guests sit and chat after dinner enjoying that cup of coffee or glass of liqueur. You’ll notice that hummingbirds are represented everywhere in the house and this area is no exception.

Bedroom #2

Bedroom #2 "The Blueberry” - The stairs lead to the second bedroom, a spacious area with a queen-size bed. Antiques are everywhere in the house and this bedroom has its fair share. A television, telephone, and clock radio are provided for your use as well as a bathroom just across the hall. Our guests comment on the warmth and comfort of this room.
Bedroom #3 - "The Saskatoon Suite” – This is a suite in the Hummingbird Haven that also gets rave reviews from our guests. Antiques surround a queen-size bed. A wool rug covers the wood floors in the middle of the sitting area. A couch and table provide a relaxing area for you while you visit or watch television or a movie. A VCR is there for your use along with approximately 20 movies if watching the “small silver screen” interests you. The bathroom is just outside the bedroom door. How does a great soak sound?

Upstairs Bathroom

Upstairs Bathroom – This bathroom boasts an antique iron claw-foot tub. Our guests say that aches, pains, and worries disappear after a relaxing bath in this tub. We don’t know if it is the magic waters of St. Walburg or the environment itself but our visitors thoroughly enjoy this decadence. You will too!
Sitting Area #2 – This is the upstairs reading area, which looks out over the large lot. A door leads to the top deck and can be a second entrance to the Hummingbird Haven. A beautiful hand carved and constructed oak chest (available locally) complements the scene while an antique chair makes for “easy reading”. Who would want to leave this setting? This space alone may have you considering another night’s stay.

The Decks

The Decks – Spectacular! A two-tiered deck including chairs and a table is the perfect spot from which to enjoy the hanging flowers and large lot. St. Walburg is a major hummingbird area (someone should name a Bed and Breakfast after those birds!) and is also the home of a wide array of other species that make for incredible birdwatching.
The Hummingbird’s Breakfast – You won’t be working as hard as the birds do for a “hummer” of a breakfast! A full (and we mean you will be!) breakfast is provided for every guest and includes bacon, eggs, pancakes, fruits, toast, juice, tea and coffee. Special diet requests will be accommodated with prior notice. Our guests frequently comment on Jean’s incredible cooking (Gil washes dishes well) and many take advantage of her scrumptious suppers as well.
