The Beach at Normandy

The soldier slowly takes up his pack
And climbs upon the boat
This thoughts are with his family
And the hope he stays afloat

He has a wife; she's young and true
His love for her is strong
His thoughts stay centered on her
As he fearlessly sails along

He has a young daughter as well
But she is too young to understand
That he is sailing straight to hell
That he will walk on blood-stained sand

As his ship reaches the shore
The soldiers all pour out
He has no time left any more
The enemy's about

And from the ship he does debark
And he raises up his gun
And a German bullet finds its mark
And with that his life is done

And so, the soldier died for naught
His corpse floats in the sea
His head pierced by a German's shot
At the beach of Normandy
