Standard Gray & recessive carriers This colour is in the same range as normal standard gray (from light to dark blue grey, with ticked or agouti fur). There are many "tips and tricks" that are shared about how to tell if a gray carries a certain recessive gene. The only way to be 100% sure is to have an animal of known parentage or by test breedings of that same animal in controlled circumstances. Animals may carry a color trait, even if the pedigree is known. For instance, if one parent is violet and the other is std gray then the resulting offspring will be gray vc (violet carrier). This same would be true for sapphire, violet, rec beige and some forms of ebony. Some forms of ebony maybe hidden by standard gray that results in showing a "dirty" belly but could still pass as a naturale (standard gray) . Ebony could create a darkening over the entire coat and wrap color around the entire belly. There is alot of debate on the color called "Charcoal". Some say it is rare and the gene is not present in the USA.... others say it is the solid (wrap) gray phase of ebony. |
