Standard Gray, Normal Gray, Coat Gray, Light Gray

This colour ranges from light to dark blue grey,  with ticked  or agouti fur.  The perfect Standard chinchillas have a white belly.  A chin that carries either dominate or recessive
Ebony genes  may have a "dirty" belly, not white but grey.  Sometimes called normal gray, but some lighter shades are simply catagorized as light, medium or dark gray.  The dark, even ticked fur with clarity and blue tones are prized by pelters maybe called coat grays.

Gray  makes up about
90% of the chinchilla population according to some studies.   However, it is not the completely dominate color.  This is caused by the effects of the incomplete dominance of 3 other colors;  beige - black velvet - white:
White and velvet (tov) should be considered patterns, as these modify the existing color on the animal.

Gray to gray matings will most likely get all gray offspring.  Only if both parents carry a  common *
recessive color gene will  25% of the kits be that color, another 25% will be carriers of that color.   They will be indistinguishable from the 50 % that are pure grays.
