Hamster Breeding / Marketing
Welcome!  Please read all you can on these pages and Email me with your questions after you have read (and maybe re-read)  all of these pages.

SO - You want to raise hamsters?
Raising any animal is not something to be entered into lightly.  Even if you may not be ready to take on a full scale breeding operation and just want to "raise a few",  Please read the following info, and take what applies to you and hopefully you will learn enough to make the right decisions.... and even have a few litters that are more successful =, making you the talk of your local hamster community!

First do you home work.  This will include:

Market Research - See what there is out in your market.  What is available now, what will be needed for the future and what you would be able to add to the area.

Legal attributes - Check the laws that would affect you including federal, state, local and other civic ordinances that may affect your budding project.

Species studies - Learning all you can about the species you plan to breed.  There are 5 species found in the pet trade ....

Get your game plan / Code of Ethics - Decide what code of ethics you will go by when dealing in the market.

Feasibility study / record keeping -  Check on costs and return on the investment.  This would include start up cost, keeping track of expenditures and income as well as breeding records, which are very important to any ongoing animal breeding project.

Selection and Breeding -  What will you look for in your breeding stock? What do you want to avoid?  Some pitfalls to avoid as well as some pratical applications in the breeding process.

Promoting, bartering and selling -  This the payoff, so to speak.  If you are not doing it for the love of having the animals, and for the excitement of meeting some great new people, then don't do it!
But, here are my tips on making your name out there in that market place and how to get your foot in the door!
