Hamster Breeding / Marketing |
Selling to select retail outlets, wholesale & public - My plan includes only selling to select stores and other reputable breeders. I also sell to private pet people, but this is not enough to sell many hamsters in a year. Having a lot of people come to my home on a regular basis is not great for keeping my home happy! I have helped several new breeders get started in my area. I do not sell to Big Box chain stores or any store that retails puppies or kittens (puppy mill outlets), I will not sell to a shop that does in store breeding, or if I feel that the cleanliness standards do not conform to my standards. You will need to think these things through and set this in your personal code. I am always more then willing to help the new shop employees learn about the species I raise, and regularly conducted sessions to teach them how to sex and care for the animals. I have even help them learn about other species that I no longer raise (guinea pigs, rabbits, mice, rats, gerbils), but I know that all these animal are better off for my efforts. I have also sold at swap meets and sales. This takes some talking to the people and demands some work but is a lot of fun! I developed hand outs on hamster care to give out, ensuring that my babies went out with all the info possible to help make the new homes better. Email support is always available to new buyers. Laying out a well made plan and working hard to do the right thing, will take you a long way in achieving your goals. The rewards will be in producing a group of hamters that carry the traits we all want to see. Very good pets with great personaility, beauty and outstanding health which will ensure these animals always find wonderful homes when they leave your nest. |
